Matias vs Ponce Betting Odds Favor Knockout King

IBF World Super Lightweight Title

Subriel Matias and Jeremias Ponce meet in a vacant IBF Super Lightweight title fight on Saturday and Matias vs Ponce betting odds favor Matias.

The Puerto Rican is 18-1 with 18 wins coming by knockout, so he doesn’t muck around and he’s a dangerous proposition for 30-0 Pounce, who hasn’t faced the same level of opposition.

Those who like to bet on boxing matches will notice Matias paying a short -450 to continue his recent winning run. Ponce is the +325 underdog for the fight in Armory.

Location: Armory, Minneapolis, United States

Matias Focused on Win

Matias lost to Petros Ananyan in 2020 via a close decision, but he has rebounded in fine style and now he gets his chance at a major title.

The quality power puncher forced his last three opponents to retire after dominating the fights. He was ahead against Malik Hawkins when the doctor stopped the fight, before beating Batyrzhan Jukembayev when his corner threw in the towel.

Ananyan retired in the ninth round most recently, which is a scary thought for Ponce. Matias has been forcing his opponents to quit and many of them have been unbeaten, so he has been making a statement.

He gets his chance to fight for the vacant title and he could take it with both hands.

“I’m very grateful that there is now a date for this fight so that I can finally realize my dream and become world champion,” said Matias. “I’ve been away from my family for 10 months in Mexico, just preparing and getting ready until the time came to step into the ring. Now that it’s in my sight, there’s nothing that is going to stand in my way.”

Matias vs Ponce betting odds is confident he can get the win. He has been the visually better fighter throughout his career, and although Ponce is unbeaten, his record isn’t nearly as impressive as Matias.

His only loss came because he was knocked down in the seventh round against Ananyan in their first meeting, but he got his revenge and that’s what counts the most.

Ponce Looking to Pounce

Take unbeaten records in boxing with a grain of salt, but Ponce has earned his shot at the title.

He might be ranked 17th in the world in his division, but after 30 consecutive victories, it’s good to see him being tested against some of the best.

The Argentinian knocked out a one-star opponent last year, who was 23-20-1. However, he has a knockout win over Lewis Ritson, who was one of the rising stars in British boxing.

Ritson was knocked down three times in the 10th round, so Ponce pounced on his opportunity to remain unbeaten.

“I promise that I’m coming into this fight prepared to do whatever it takes to reach my dream and become a world champion,” said Ponce. “In my mind, this is my fight, and that title is already mine. Anyone who’s standing in my way is going to see why I’m undefeated and why I’ve earned this position that I’m in.”

His boxing schedule has been full on, so he’s battle-hardened and that should hold him in good stead against Matias.

However, Matias vs Ponce betting odds isn’t giving Ponce much chance of winning. He’s the +325 underdog to win the title, so bookmakers are taking into account his lack of big-fight experience.

Going 12 rounds will be a great test of stamina. Having 30 fights under his belt should help, but Matias is the better boxer at face value and we would include his odds in boxing bets.
