Scotney Favored To Smash Lefebvre in Unification Bout

The Scotney vs Lefebvre Odds Widely Favor the Briton

Most of the money has come for Ellie Scotney going by the Scotney vs Lefebvre odds for Saturday’s title fight. The IBF and WBO bantamweight titles are on the line against Segolene Lefebvre, who is a massive +840 outsider with the betting boxing markets.

Both fighters are unbeaten champions so it should be an epic battle at the Manchester Arena despite the wide lines.

Home Cooking for Scotney

Fighting in front of your home fans is always a positive in boxing, and Scotney could relish the situation. The 26-year-old Brit is 8-0, and lacking experience compared to her opponent. However, she has looked good in rising through the grades.

She won the IBF title when beating Cherneka Johnson, which was a good victory before adding a win over Laura Soledad Griffa.

It’s not stellar form by any means, and she’s only ranked eighth in the division. However, many believe she’s only going to improve as her career continues, which is a scary thought.

Her boxing schedule has been busy, which is good. She fought twice last year, and that’s good preparation to take on 18-0 Lefebvre, who is no walkover.

“Even before the Cherneka Johnson fight, Lefebvre was someone that we targeted,” Scotney said. “We tried to make the fight previously, but it just didn’t align. Now I’ve got more to offer on the table, and we’re both young, we’re both undefeated and we’re both world champions. I believe that’s going to make for a great fight.”

Despite Scotney vs Lefebvre odds suggesting it will be one-way traffic, we can’t agree. Scotney is a -1450 favorite, despite having all eight wins come by decision.

She might adopt similar tactics again, and instead of going for a knockout, she will just win rounds and force her opponent to go for the power shots late.

Skewered Rankings?

Lefebvre is the third-ranked bantamweight in the world, but she’s friendless in betting markets. The French fighter has yet to suffer a defeat in 18 fights, and although she hasn’t had many tough fields, she can’t be overlooked at the massive odds.

The 30-year-old won the WBO title in 2021 and she has successfully defended it since. There’s nothing wrong with that form, and she’s done all she has been asked.

Therefore, why is she paying +840 with Scotney vs Lefebvre odds? It’s a good price even if she doesn’t have the hype that Scotney has, on top of fighting in England. There is a case to be made of an upset happening.

The latest boxing news is that she’s training well and won’t let the occasion get to her. We understand why she’s the underdog, but we can’t see her losing by knockout, so she might make the 10-round contest tough for Scotney.

Follow the Hype

We can’t ignore the hype though Scotney should get the job done at home. She might not have as much experience as Lefebvre, but she’s talented and appears to have more upside.

We’re not interested in the short odds for Scotney to win outright. The -500 to win on points is a much better price, and it’s unlikely she has the power to knock out anyone, let alone Lefebvre.

We expect the fight to go the distance, which pays -1000. Those odds are short, so the best value is clearly with Scotney to win by decision.
