Bayern Munich, Leverkusen Title Race Imminent?

2024 Bundesliga Season Outright Odds: Bayern Look To Return to Top

Leverkusen Coming off Invincible Campaign

Before the 2023-24 season, Bayer Leverkusen had never won the German Bundesliga. In their maiden title campaign, Xabi Alonso’s men unbelievably completed the league’s first unbeaten campaign. Now, Leverkusen have the tall task of beating out Bayern Munich to the league title for a second straight season.

Bayern had won 11 straight league titles before Leverkusen’s rise to the top. We’ll analyze the 2024 Bundesliga season outright odds as we gear up for the season, which starts on August 23rd, and a potential Bayern and Leverkusen title race.

Bayern and Bayer Leverkusen Top Dogs

Somehow, someway, Harry Kane still hasn’t won a major trophy in his senior career for club or country. That was expected to change last year, when he joined 11-time defending Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich from Tottenham.

Kane had the most prolific debut season ever in the Bundesliga stats, with 36 goals but Bayern still finished in third place behind Bayer Leverkusen and Stuttgart.

This offseason, Bayern have added two more Premier League stars, in Joao Palhinha and Michael Olise. Despite a superb roster, with players like Jamal Musiala, Leroy Sane and Joshua Kimmich, there are certainly questions about incoming coach Vincent Kompany, who got Burnley relegated from the EPL last season.

Regardless, Bayern show -225 odds to win the Bundesliga.

Leverkusen became the first team to complete an unbeaten Bundesliga campaign in 2023-24, with a 28-6-0 record. The season before, Bayer Leverkusen only finished in sixth place but some offseason additions became key players, including Granit Xhaka and Victor Boniface.

The league had no answer for Leverkusen’s wing backs, Jeremie Frimpong and Alex Grimaldo, who combined for 39 goal contributions last season. Florian Wirtz won the league’s Player of the Season Award and is one of the world’s best young players.

As center back Jonathan Tah now looks set to stay at the club, Leverkusen have a shot to repeat as champions. They’ve also added Aleix Garcia, Martin Terrier and young center back Jeanuel Belocian to their squad. Currently, Bayer are priced at +275 odds to win back-to-back titles.

Dortmund, Leipzig Have Outside Chance

It’s the end of an era for Borussia Dortmund as club legends Marco Reus and Mats Hummels have left the club. While Reus wasn’t a starter by the end of his time in Dortmund, Hummels was instrumental in Borussia Dortmund’s run to the Champions League final.

Waldemar Anton, who helped Stuttgart come in second place in the Bundesliga last season, has replaced Hummels. Meanwhile, Dortmund also brought in Anton’s Stuttgart teammate Serhou Guirassy, who scored 28 goals last season.

Dortmund have also added creative midfielder Pascal Gross and defender Yan Couto. Borussia Dortmund finished in fifth place in 2023-24, with an 18-9-7 record. They sit at +1000 odds to win a first Bundesliga title since 2012 in coach and former player Nuri Sahin’s first season at the helm.

RB Leipzig’s Bundesliga scores towards the end of last season were solid, as they closed out on an 11 game unbeaten streak. Concurrently, striker Benjamin Sesko scored seven goals in Leipzig’s last seven matches on the German Bundesliga schedule. The Slovenian is staying in Leipzig despite lots of interest from elsewhere.

Xavi Simons is returning for another loan spell, meaning Leipzig’s attack should once again be excellent, despite Dani Olmo’s imminent departure to Barcelona. Lois Openda also found the net 24 times last season and RB have an outside shot of becoming Bundesliga champions for the first time. +1400

Marco Rose guided Leipzig to fourth place last season as they averaged over two goals per game and only conceded 1.15 goals per game. With goalkeeper Peter Gulasci fully healthy, we think RB Leipzig are a team to keep an eye on.

Dark Horse

Stuttgart went from the relegation playoff in 2022-23 to the Bundesliga’s second-placed team one season later. Sebastian Hoeness has worked wonders with Stuttgart, who will be playing in the Champions League this season for the first time since 2009-10.

Crucially, Stuttgart sealed a permanent deal for Deniz Undav, who scored 18 goals and provided 10 assists on loan from Brighton last season. Still, key players Serhou Guirassy, Waldemar Anton and Hiroki Ito have all moved on to greener pastures.

To replace their outgoing players, Stuttgart have made a bunch of value transfers, which is a strategy that could pay off. In a bid to replace Guirassy, they brought in Ermedin Demirovic, who’s coming off a superb season with Augsburg. Meanwhile, Jeff Chabot, Anthony Rouault, Leonidas Stergiou, Ramon Hendriks and Franz Kratzig are all new signings in defense.

Replicating last season’s success is unlikely but possible. Stuttgart are priced at +2800 odds to win the Bundesliga in 2024-25.

Longshots

Eintracht Frankfurt drew nearly half of their matches last season. They’re a difficult team to play against but we’d be shocked to see them challenge for the title this season. Frankfurt have brought in PSG striker Hugo Ekitike on a permanent deal and are +10000 longshots to win the title.

Borussia Mönchengladbach have underperformed frequently over the the last few years. They’ve finished in the bottom half in the last three seasons and only one point outside of the relegation zone in 2023-24.

There’s potential here but Gladbach conceded 67 goals last season. The 2024 Bundesliga season outright odds price them at +10000.

Wolfsburg also come in at +10000 odds and were the league’s 12th place team in 2023-24. They have some exciting talents, like Jonas Wind, Patrick Wimmer, Lovro Majer and Joakim Maehle. However, consistency and secondary goal scoring could be an issue.
