Dortmund Resumes Pursuit of Bayern at Top of Table

Title Challenge a Possibility, After All

Headlined by a heavyweight bout between Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig, the Bundesliga is back for a full slate of games this weekend and we’re here to dole out some Bundesliga betting tips.

Bayern Munich have often been dominant this season despite leading the league by just six points. The Bavarians are outscoring their opponents by nearly two goals per game and are just 20 goals away from the single-season Bundesliga record of 101 with seven games remaining. Still, Dortmund could catch Bayern to make this a title race to remember, especially with a late April matchup looming.

Haaland Fit, Ready for Dortmund

It’s been an up-and-down first season for Marco Rose and Borussia Dortmund. The team recently came crashing out of the Europa League, which they were favored to win, losing to Rangers 6-4 on aggregate. Plus, Erling Haaland has missed large stretches of the season due to recurring injuries and you’ve got to wonder if the world-class striker already has one foot out of the door.

Haaland, a 21-year-old Norwegian international, is the most wanted player in the world and has been linked to Manchester City, Real Madrid and Barcelona. He could leave Dortmund on a positive note this summer if he’s able to help them win a shock title. He’s been incredible when he’s played, scoring 16 times in 17 matches this season. Finally fully fit, Haaland is ready to lead the line once again.

Bundesliga soccer predictions have almost unanimously picked Bayern Munich to win the title, but Dortmund have a favorable remaining schedule, apart from heading to Munich in a few weeks and Saturday’s matchup with visiting RB Leipzig.

Dortmund come in as slight favorites in a pick’em vs. a Leipzig side that have won by a 6-1 scoreline twice in their last four Bundesliga matches. Since Domenico Tedesco took over in December, Leipzig have lost just twice, with their only road defeat coming to Bayern.

Leipzig was shut out for the first time since December in their 0-0 draw vs. Eintracht Frankfurt before the international break, but they’ve created plenty of chances lately. Dortmund’s defense has often been a disaster this season so don’t be surprised if both teams get on the board. Over three goals is interestingly listed at -110 in the sportsbook and the last four matches between these sides have finished with three goals or more.

Freiburg Wants to Frustrate Bayern

Don’t necessarily expect a cakewalk for Bayern Munich when they hit the road to SC Freiburg on Saturday. Freiburg are still in the running for a Champions League place and are unbeaten in their last seven matches in all competitions. Bundesliga betting tips have often overlooked Freiburg this season but they are 4-1 ATS in their last five matches.

Freiburg also have a respectable 2-2-2 record vs the Bundesliga’s top four this season. The Breisgau Brazilians haven’t lost at home since Dec. 11, but come into their showdown with Bayern as 1½-goal underdogs. Only Bayern have a better defensive record than Freiburg and the last three meetings between these sides have been decided by one goal or fewer.

Plus, Bayern have been slipping a bit as of late. Despite Robert Lewandowski finding the net in Bayern’s last three matches in all competitions, Bayern have scored just one goal in three of their last four Bundesliga matches. That shouldn’t happen with the likes of Lewandowski, Leroy Sane, Serge Gnabry and Kingsley Coman up top.

When Bayern turns it on, they’re world-beaters, but they’ve won just one of their last three matches in the Bundesliga. Lewandowski bagged a brace as Bayern defeated Union Berlin 4-0 before the international break, but Julian Nagelsmann hasn’t been able to get the best out of his players in recent weeks. A draw is listed at a long +430 according to the Bundesliga betting odds, but that was how this fixture finished in Freiburg last season.

Young Guns Out for Leverkusen vs Hertha

Bayer Leverkusen’s young attacking line is incredibly promising, but injuries have wreaked havoc on them recently. Attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz has seven goals and 10 assists and he’s only a teenager. Amine Adli, a 21-year-old French youth international, has shown flashes of his high potential this season. Then there’s Patrik Schick, who has scored more Bundesliga goals this season than anyone not named Lewandowski.

Unfortunately, all three are dealing with injuries, and Wirtz and Adli will most likely miss the rest of the season. Starting defender Jeremie Frimpong may also be out for the remainder of the season while reliable midfielder Kerem Demirbay is suspended for Leverkusen’s match vs. Hertha Berlin on Saturday.

A result would take Hertha out of the relegation zone, while Leverkusen’s third-place standing is far from secure. You’d struggle to find a Bundesliga betting tip that picked Hertha over Hoffenheim, but the Berlin club are coming off a shocking 3-0 win before the international break that could prove to be a turning point in their season. As 1½-goal underdogs, Hertha could be worth a closer look on the road vs. an injury-laden Leverkusen, especially as these teams drew back in November.

Even with all of the injuries, Leverkusen are still a dangerous team. Not remotely short on young talent, 21-year-old Brazilian Paulinho scored a brace in a recent 2-0 win over Wolfsburg despite playing just 10 minutes. It’s also worth noting that Hertha have been shut out in five of their last six road matches and have only kept four shutouts of their own all season.
