2024 CFL Week 11: Montreal vs ‘Riders Highlights Slate
Masoli Expected to Make Start For Ottawa
The 2024 CFL Week 11 slate has several decent games, including a big one in Saskatchewan. There is significant intrigue entering this week. A lot has to do with quarterbacks. a
Jeremiah Masoli is expected to start for Ottawa in Calgary while Taylor Powell will start for Hamilton on Saturday. Toronto quarterback Chad Kelly could also be reinstated. British Columbia is expected to give Jake Dolegala another start in place of the injured Vernon Adams. The Lions could change their minds, not playing until Sunday.
Masoli Returns as Redblacks Face Tough Road Test Against Stampeders
🏈Redblacks vs Stampeders🏈
📅Date & Time: Thursday, Aug. 15, 9:00 pm ET
📍Location: McMahon Stadium, Calgary, AB
The Ottawa Redblacks travel to Calgary to kick-off the 2024 CFL Week 11 action with Masoli taking over for the injured Dru Brown. Masoli has battled a myriad of injuries but will make his first start of the year. Ottawa is 5-2-1 on the season after last week’s draw with Saskatchewan.
The Redblacks are just 1-2 on the road this season. Calgary fell to Toronto in what was a quick revenge game for the Argonauts, but are now home where it is 4-0 compared to 0-5 on the road. The Stampeders are favored by 2.5 and the total is 49.5.
Brown helped the Redblacks to their quick start but threw for just six TDs and four interceptions. Ottawa isn’t going to lose anything with Masoli in the game. He’ll have a bit of rust but is probably a better downfield passer. With Calgary’s Jake Maier having a hot hand so far this season, believe the over 49.5 is the way to look in this one.
🏈Alouettes vs Roughriders🏈
📅Date & Time: Friday, Aug. 16, 9:00 pm ET
📍Location: Mosaic Stadium, Regina, SK
Montreal hasn’t quite clinched a playoff spot yet, but at 8-1, the team’s CFL playoffs odds look pretty solid. The Alouettes have to deal with a 5-3-1 Saskatchewan team that is 3-1 at home for the season.
The Alouettes are favored by 2.5 and the total on the game is 50.5. Cody Fajardo could return at quarterback for Montreal, but the team hasn’t committed to anything. Davis Alexander has played well in his absence.
Montreal’s defense is going to be the key here. The CFL scores show the Alouettes have allowed the second-fewest points in the league. The Alouettes are the only team in the league to have a winning road record, going 4-0. Saskatchewan at 2-2-1 has a non-losing record. The under 50.5 looks to be the best play here.
🏈Elks vs Tiger-Cats🏈
📅Date & Time: Saturday, Aug. 17, 7:00 pm ET
📍Location: Tim Hortons Field, Hamilton, ON
The 2024 CFL Week 11 schedule features this battle of 2-7 teams, who can’t afford a loss to keep their slim playoff hopes alive. The CFL odds have Edmonton favored by 1.5 with a total of 52.5. Despite leading the league in passing yards and touchdowns, Hamilton’s Bo Levi Mitchell has been benched for Taylor Powell, who threw for 319 yards and two TDs in relief against Montreal. Mitchell was benched after starting 3-of-4 with an interception.
Neither team can play defense well, so there could be plenty of points. It might not be easy for Powell, who racked up some stats during garbage time in the fourth quarter as Montreal was comfortably ahead. You’d like to give the under a look here, but the defenses are horrible.
🏈Blue Bombers vs Lions🏈
📅Date & Time: Sunday, Aug. 18, 7:00 pm ET
📍Location: BC Place, Vancouver, B.C.
The week ends with a decent game between Winnipeg and British Columbia. After the Lions sputtered in their first game without Adams, the Blue Bombers opened as 3.5-point favorites and a total of 46.5. Winnipeg’s defense has been the strength of the team so far. Winnipeg is leading the CFL in points allowed and is No. 1 in total defense.
British Columbia hasn’t had to rely on its defense much this season, although that’s changed a little with Adams out. The Lion defense wasn’t up to the task against Edmonton, allowing 200 rushing yards and 33 points. They will have to be better here or they’ll be handed another loss.
We have to give the slightest of leans to the under in this game.
