2024 CFL Week 8 Odds: Fajardo Questionable For Montreal

QB Injuries Keeping Game Off the Board

2024 CFL Week 8 odds

The expected showdown between the teams with the two best records in the CFL might have taken a hit. Montreal quarterback Cody Fajardo missed practice a second straight day on Monday with a hamstring issue.

As a result, the 2024 CFL Week 8 odds are out for the other three games, but sportsbooks are waiting for something more definitive before posting the numbers for the Alouettes.

🏈 Roughriders vs Alouettes 🏈

📋Records: Saskatchewan Roughriders (5-1-0), Montreal Alouettes (5-1-0)
📅Date & Time:
Thursday, July 25, 7:30 pm ET
🏟️Location: Molson Memorial Stadium, Montreal, QC
📺Stream: CBS Sports Network, CFL+

This game is the biggest on this week’s CFL schedule and tentatively has a spread of 2.5 in favor of Montreal. Alouettes coach Jason Maas appears to be in no hurry to announce Fajardo’s status. Maas told reporters the team had until game day to make its quarterback decision.

Backup Caleb Evans has been taking the first-team reps in practice. The team also activated quarterback James Morgan from the practice squad to give them three quarterbacks.

The Alouettes aren’t the only ones with a quarterback problem. Saskatchewan quarterback Trevor Harris was injured several weeks ago and Shea Patterson has done an admirable job stepping in. His numbers are getting better each game and he’ll be the starter at least three more games for the Roughriders.

Even if Fajardo plays, you have to wonder how much his effectiveness will be hampered. The Alouettes should be small favorites with Evans and a bit more if Fajardo manages to go. Montreal is worth a small play regardless of the quarterback.

🏈 Stampeders vs Redblacks🏈

📋Records: Calgary Stampeders (3-3-0), Ottawa Redblacks (4-2-0)
📅Date & Time:
Friday, July 26, 7:30 pm ET
🏟️Location: TD Place Stadium, Ottawa, ON
📺Stream: CBS Sports Network, CFL+

The 2024 CFL Week 8 odds have the 3-3 Calgary Stampeders favored by 1 point over 4-2 Ottawa with a total of 51.5. The Stampeders have lost all three road games this season, which makes them hard to play as away favorites. The Redblacks are 3-0 at home. Despite Ottawa’s record, the Redblacks have been outscored by 20 points this season.

Calgary’s Jake Maier is third in the CFL in TD passes and sixth in passing yards. His career high in touchdown passes is 19 and he’s primed to explode past that. He’s getting a bit of help from Dedrick Mills rushing the ball.

Ottawa’s Dru Brown has done a decent job for an Ottawa team that wasn’t supposed to be very good. He’s No. 7 in passing yards but has just five TD passes.

The CFL predictions have Calgary winning this game. Even though they’re 0-3 on the road, those games were against British Columbia, Winnipeg, and Montreal, three of the better teams in the league. Calgary looks to be the right side.

🏈 Blue Bombers vs Argonauts 🏈

📋Records: Winnipeg Blue Bombers (2-4-0), Toronto Argonauts (3-3-0)
📅Date & Time:
Saturday, July 26, 7:00 pm ET
🏟️Location: BMO Field, Toronto, ON
📺Stream: CBS Sports Network, CFL+

This one could turn out to be a pretty decent game. The 2024 CFL Week 8 odds have Winnipeg favored by 1 with a total of 49.5. Winnipeg is just 2-5 on the season, which is not the start you imagine for the preseason Grey Cup favorite.

The Blue Bombers haven’t played as badly as the record looks, with three losses by four points or less. Winning close games is the mark of a good team, however, and the Bombers aren’t quite there yet. Quarterback Zach Collaros has been underperforming all season and needs a breakout game in a big way.

The Argonauts have lost a few close ones themselves. Cameron Dukes has done a fair job at quarterback and is giving Toronto a chance to win most games. He does need to pick it up a little bit and start winning games. The over in this one gets a slight lean, but that’s about it.

🏈 Tiger-Cats vs Elks 🏈

📋Records: Hamilton Tiger-Cats (1-5-0), Edmonton Elks (0-6-0)
📅Date & Time:
Sunday, July 28, 7:00 pm ET
🏟️Location: Commonwealth Stadium, Edmonton, AB
📺Stream: CBS Sports Network, CFL+

While the week started on a high note, it’s ending with a whimper, as 1-5 Hamilton visits 0-6 Edmonton. The Elks are favored by 2.5 points and the total on the game is 53.5. It’s hard to argue that Edmonton shouldn’t be favored in this game.

Despite losing all six games, Edmonton has been outscored by just 26 points on the season. Hamilton is -42 in scoring differential through the same number of games. The Tiger-Cats have scored five more points than Edmonton, but have allowed 21 more.

McLeod Bethel-Thompson is putting up some decent numbers for Edmonton, but the CFL scores and odds haven’t fallen their way. The Elks have lost four games by a field goal. Part of that has to fall on the team, but a little bad luck is also in there.

Hamilton defeated Toronto last week for its first victory of the season. This week they should be on the losing end of a team winning its first game. Take Edmonton -2.5 in this one.
