Head-to-Head

This is the first meeting between Manchester City and Inter Milan on the UCL schedule. In fact, they have never met in a competitive match before now. Manchester City have won three of their last four matches vs. Italian teams, though. Inter have also won five of their last eight games vs. English opposition.

Man City Dominant in UCL

  • Semifinal Result: 5-1 agg. W vs. Real Madrid
  • Key Absences: None Reported

It has been an unforgettable last month for Manchester City. They knocked out Real Madrid in the Champions League semifinal, sealed a third straight Premier League trophy and won the FA Cup last weekend.

City dispatched defending champions Real Madrid in style, with a 4-0 win in the second leg following a 1-1 draw. Bernardo Silva scored two first half goals as Manuel Akanji and Julian Alvarez also got in on the fun. The UCL Finals odds now price Pep Guardiola’s side as favorites.

En route to another Premier League title, the Cityzens also won 11 straight games in the EPL. Erling Haaland broke records left and right as he finished the season with an unprecedented 36 league goals.

Haaland took home both the Player of the Season and PFA Young Player of the Year Awards. Kevin de Bruyne has also had another excellent season, as he led the EPL in assists.

Last Saturday, Ilkay Gundogan also came up huge as he scored both of City’s goals in a 2-1 FA Cup final win over Manchester United. His first goal was a thunderous right-footed volley within just 13 seconds of the match starting. Gundogan, who is departing Man City at the end of the season, added a left-footed volley for good measure.

In the Champions League, City have been nearly unstoppable. They haven’t lost a single match in the UCL this season and have outscored their opponents 31-5.

Haaland also leads the UCL, with 12 goals, and De Bruyne has added a joint-high six assists. After finishing first in Group G, Man City destroyed RB Leipzig in the round of 16. Haaland scored five goals in the 7-0 win in the second leg.

In the quarters, City easily defeated Bayern Munich 4-1, on aggregate. After a thrilling semifinal first leg which ended in a 1-1 draw, the floodgates opened and City beat Real Madrid 4-0.

Inter Make Surprise Run to Final

  • Semifinal Result: 3-0 agg. W vs. AC Milan
  • Key Absences: M Henrikh Mkhitaryan (Probable), F Joaquin Correa (Questionable)

Simone Inzaghi’s Inter Milan have won 11 of their last 12 games heading into Saturday’s Champions League final. The Nerazzurri won their Serie A finale last Saturday vs. Torino and they’ve scored in 13 straight matches.

Like Manchester City, Inter have already won two trophies this season. Inter made the Supercoppa Italiana final in January due to their 2022 Coppa Italia win.

There, they took down AC Milan 3-0 and became repeat Coppa Italia champions in May. Inter went down inside a minute vs. Fiorentina but Lautaro Martinez’s double carried the Nerazzurri to a win.

Inter are underdogs to complete a treble but they’ve been in stellar form. The Nerazzurri came in 2nd place in the Group C UCL standings ahead of La Liga champions Barcelona.

In the round of 16, Inter took on FC Porto and shut them out over two legs. Romelu Lukaku scored in the first leg 1-0 win and it was the only goal of the fixture.

The Nerazzurri came up against another Portuguese side in the quarterfinal, in Benfica. With a 2-0 win in the first leg, Inter were well on their way to the semifinal. A 3-3 draw in the second leg meant Inter advanced with a 5-3 aggregate victory.

In the semis, Inter took on bitter rivals AC Milan and also shut them out in both legs. In the first leg, Inter scored twice within 15 minutes and held on for a 2-0 victory.

The Nerazzurri, with a backline of Matteo Darmian, Alessandro Bastoni and Francesco Acerbi defended with vigor in the second leg.

Lautaro Martinez scored in the second half to put away the Rossoneri for good. Now, Inter are in their first UCL final since 2010.

In the process, Inter keeper Andre Onana has kept a competition-high eight shutouts. Meanwhile, wing back Federico Dimarco ranks third in the competition with five assists.

Match Analysis and Odds

Just about the only knock on Manchester City in the UCL this season is that they drew all of their away games in the knockout stage.

It’ll be interesting to see how they play at a neutral venue on Saturday. Regardless, the UCL Finals odds price Manchester City as one-goal favorites. Of Manchester City’s 12 games in the Champions League this season, they’ve won six of them by two or more goals.

Expect Man City to have the vast majority of the possession in this match as they try to break down the Inter defense. City are -220 moneyline favorites here and show -135 odds to cover.

It’s likely that Inter’s best opportunities come from counterattacks and it’s likely that striker Edin Dzeko starts against his former club. Romelu Lukaku hasn’t started any of Inter’s knockout stage matches but he has the potential to be a game-changing sub.

The Nerazzurri are +550 moneyline underdogs and Inter +1 comes in at +115 odds. Just one of Inter Milan’s six knockout stage matches have finished with over 2.5 goals. Still, Over 2.5 goals display -135 odds for the match.

None of the last six Champions League finals have finished in a draw. A draw sits at +375 odds for Saturday’s match and it would mean two 15-minute extra time periods. Should the match finish level in extra time, the Champions League final would be decided by penalties for the first time since 2016.

Man City come in at -450 odds to lift the trophy, while Inter are +325 underdogs to win a fourth title in club history. Manchester City have made several deep runs in the Champions League in recent years and it would be a huge weight off City’s shoulders if they can pull off a victory here.
