UCL Matchday 6 Betting Preview & Odds

Group D Drama on Tuesday

Group Stage Ends With a Bang

The knockout stage field is far from set as we head into the final Matchday of the Champions League group stage. Group D is the one to watch this week as all of Tottenham, Marseille, Eintracht Frankfurt and Sporting are still alive. There are also a handful of other matches with big knockout stage implications. Let’s review them and take a look at the UCL Matchday 6 betting odds.

Games in the Knockout Stage Picture:

Marseille vs. Tottenham:

Spurs show +125 odds to win after mounting a two-goal comeback at Bournemouth on Saturday. As a pick‘em, Tottenham also sit at -145 odds. Marseille, who lost 2-0 to Tottenham in the reverse fixture, are +200 underdogs and have displayed up and down home form.

In regard to this match, Marseille center back Chancel Mbemba said, “It will be war.” That’s because nothing but a win will send OM through to the knockout stage. Visitors Tottenham currently lead the Group D Champions League standings with eight points and a draw will be enough for them to go through. Meanwhile, last place Marseille have six points through five matches but are very much alive here. With a win and Sporting vs Eintracht Frankfurt draw, Marseille would win the group.

Heading into Tuesday’s match, Tottenham are favorites, but at longer than even odds.

Two of Tottenham’s attackers are injured for this match: Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison. Tottenham will rely heavily on Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son here but it’s midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur who’s stepped up lately. Bentancur scored a 90th minute winner vs. Bournemouth and scored Spurs’ equalizer in last week’s 1-1 draw vs. Sporting. This match will be personal for Marseille forward Alexis Sanchez, who played for Tottenham’s rivals Arsenal from 2014 to 2018.

Sporting CP vs. Eintracht Frankfurt:

Sporting vs. Eintracht Frankfurt is another crucial Group D match on the UCL soccer schedule. Like Marseille, Eintracht Frankfurt need a win to go through. They’re level on seven points with Sporting but would lose a tiebreaker to Sporting in the event of a draw. Dortmund ended Eintracht’s four-game winning streak on Saturday so there’ll be no lack of motivation here.

Lisbon’s Sporting are listed at +140 odds to win at home on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Frankfurt aren’t far behind, at +190 odds. Frankfurt have often played in thrillers this season and six of their last seven matches have finished with three goals or more. So the fact that over 2½ goals sits at -125 odds is unsurprising. In the reverse fixture, Sporting CP shut out Eintracht Frankfurt 3-0 on the road.

Still, Frankfurt are dangerous with offensive options like Randal Kolo Muani, Jesper Lindstrom, Mario Gotze and Daichi Kamada. Winger Ansgar Knauff is also expected to return from injury in time for the match. Meanwhile, Sporting’s Marcus Edwards scored against his boyhood club Tottenham last week. He and Francisco Trincao lead Sporting with two Champions League goals each.

Shakhtar Donetsk vs. RB Leipzig:

Shakhtar Donetsk are another side who need a win to go through to the knockout stage. The Ukrainian team will host RB Leipzig in Poland on Wednesday. Leipzig has been in excellent form lately and finished October without a loss in all competitions. They’ve also scored at least two goals in each of their six matches. Leipzig got a massive 3-2 win over defending champions Real Madrid last week which means they only need a draw to go through.

The UCL Matchday 6 betting odds price Leipzig at -145 odds to win on Wednesday. However, Shakhtar managed a 4-1 win over Leipzig in the reverse fixture. The match was Domenico Tedesco’s final match in charge of RB Leipzig and Marco Rose has improved their performances. After a slow start to the season, they’re just three points away from the Bundesliga top four. They can also win the group with a win and Real Madrid draw or loss vs. Celtic.

Shakhtar are +400 underdogs and that could have something to do with Marian Shved’s injury. The midfielder, who scored two goals last time vs. Leipzig, missed last week’s match vs. Celtic. Shakhtar managed to leave Scotland with a 1-1 draw as Mykhaylo Mudryk scored the equalizer. Mudryk is a wanted man in the transfer market so this could very well be his last European match with Shakhtar. Let’s see how he and Shakhtar get on.

AC Milan vs. RB Salzburg:

Either AC Milan or RB Salzburg will advance to the round of 16 after they meet on Wednesday. For Milan, a draw will be enough. Meanwhile, RB Salzburg need a win at the San Siro to make the knockout stage for a second consecutive season. The UCL Matchday 6 betting odds favor Milan, at -175.

The Rossoneri defeated Dinamo Zagreb 4-0 last week to take a one-point lead over Salzburg heading into Matchday 6. Chelsea have already clinched Group E so the winner will finish in second. Salzburg sit at +500 odds and are one-goal underdogs heading into Wednesday.

When these teams met in Salzburg in September, the match finished in a 1-1 draw. Another draw, which would knock Salzburg out, is priced at +325 odds. Milan haven’t reached the knockout stage of the Champions League for 10 years so this is a massive match for them. Rafael Leao has been in incredible form for the Rossoneri and the winger is certainly a player to watch on Wednesday.

Matches With Placing Ramifications:

Both Club Brugge and FC Porto are through from Group B but both teams have the opportunity to finish first. Brugge currently have 10 points, while Porto have nine. Porto lost their first two UCL matches but come into their match vs. Atletico Madrid on a three-match UCL winning streak. Porto are +145 favorites vs. Atleti on Tuesday. Brugge are +380 underdogs at Bayer Leverkusen, despite the fact that Leverkusen are winless in their last five matches.

Liverpool need to defeat Napoli by four or more goals on Tuesday to finish in first place in Group A. That’s because Napoli destroyed Liverpool 4-1 in the reverse fixture. Liverpool have lost their last two Premier League matches to lowly Nottingham Forest and Leeds. However, they’re through to the UCL knockout stage, along with Napoli. Napoli are on an absurd 13-game winning streak in all competitions but are +320 underdogs. They’re a popular bet against the one-goal spread, at -145 odds.

If RB Leipzig defeat Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday, Real Madrid need to defeat Celtic to win Group F. Real have struggled in their last two matches without Karim Benzema. They drew with Girona on Sunday and lost 3-2 to RB Leipzig last week. Defending champions Real will go through either way but they’re priced at -500 odds to remove all doubt and finish in first.

Both PSG and Benfica have clinched knockout stage qualification from Group; however, they both sit on 11 points heading into UCL Matchday 6. If both teams win on Wednesday, Benfica will need to win by a four goal margin more than PSG win to finish in first. Benfica are only -½ goal favorites to win at Maccabi Haifa. PSG head on the road to Juventus, who have been huge disappointments this season. The Parisians are -130 favorites.
