UCL Round of 16: Man City vs Copenhagen Odds & Preview
UCL Favorites Have One Foot Quarter-Final

Mission Impossible for Copenhagen
Manchester City fell behind in Sunday’s Derby vs. bitter rivals Manchester United. City managed to come back and pull off a 3-1 victory. That was also the score when the Cityzens defeated Copenhagen in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16. City host Copenhagen on Wednesday in the second leg and Copenhagen will look to pull off the seemingly impossible. City haven’t lost at the Etihad since November 2022 and they’ll be looking to keep things that way. Ahead of the match, let’s go through the Man City vs Copenhagen odds.
Man City vs Copenhagen Head-to-Head
FC Copenhagen are winless in five previous matches vs. Manchester City. In last month’s round of 16 first leg, Kevin De Bruyne opened up the scoring for visitors City in the 10th minute. Magnus Mattsson equalized for Copenhagen later on in the first half but Man City goals from Bernardo Silva and Phil Foden put the game to bed.
Man City -1.5 sat at -130 pregame Champions League odds and the Cityzens managed to cover the goal line. City are 2-0 all-time vs. Copenhagen at the Etihad and are an unbeaten 3-2-0 in this fixture overall.
Man City Grab Derby Win
Manchester City have scored nine goals in their last two games and Erling Haaland has accounted for six of them. Haaland scored five goals in a 6-2 FA Cup win at Luton Town last Tuesday and he scored City’s third in the 3-1 Derby win over Manchester United on Sunday. Haaland failed to score in the reverse fixture at Copenhagen but it’ll be quite difficult for the Danish side to contain him twice.
It wasn’t Haaland who starred in the Manchester Derby, though. Phil Foden was the hero for City as he scored the brace which spurred their come from behind victory. Foden doesn’t receive as much credit as Kevin De Bruyne or Haaland but he’s been excellent this season.
Soccer betting news notes Foden has registered eight goal-creating actions in the UCL this season, which only trails FC Porto’s Galeno. The versatile English international has also scored 11 goals and provided seven assists in the Premier League.
De Bruyne hasn’t registered a goal contribution in any of his last three matches after having a five game streak upon his return to action. Still, he’s made City’s attack much more dynamic and having Rodri at the base of midfield allows De Bruyne and other City midfielders to take more risks.
Pep Guardiola’s side currently show +150 odds to repeat as Champions League winners and they’re 7-0 in the competition so far this season. City are also on a 19 game unbeaten run heading into Wednesday’s match.
Copenhagen Miss Opportunity to Take Superliga Lead
FC Copenhagen had a chance to take the Danish Superliga lead on Friday but they missed a big opportunity. Copenhagen had their chances at FC Midtjylland but fell 2-0 as Midtjylland went on top of the table instead. Kamil Grabara saved a penalty for Copenhagen in the loss but his poor pass also led to the second and final goal of the match. It marked Copenhagen’s first loss in the Superliga since the end of the Winter break a few weeks ago.
It came as a bit of a shock that FC Copenhagen finished in one of the top two spots in the Group A Champions League table. Copenhagen have managed some excellent results this season, though. They ended Bayern Munich’s 17 game group stage winning streak by picking up a scoreless draw at the Allianz last November. They also picked up important wins vs. Manchester United and Galatasaray.
Winter signing Magnus Mattsson scored his first goal for the club in the reverse fixture in Copenhagen. The midfielder has managed to score two goals in four appearances since joining from NEC Nijmegen in the Eredivisie.
Meanwhile, Lukas Lerager led Copenhagen with three goals in the UCL group stage. However, the midfielder missed the first leg due to a suspension. He was also out injured for the match vs. Midtjylland and his status is worth monitoring for Wednesday.
Man City vs Copenhagen Match Analysis & Odds
At the moment, Man City are such big favorites to advance that oddsmakers have closed betting on the overall fixture odds. For City to fail to advance, they’d have to lose by two goals and lose in extra time or lose by more than two goals in normal time. That simply does not happen at the Etihad with any kind of regularity. City, with a 3-1 lead, are -795 favorites to win this leg as well and City -2, -2.5 displays -120 Man City vs Copenhagen odds.
Guardiola’s side can certainly be ruthless, exemplified by last season’s 7-0 win over RB Leipzig in the second leg of the Round of 16. Copenhagen are +1550 underdogs to win Wednesday’s match and have absolutely nothing to lose. No one expects them to go through here and they’ll be praised even if they can pull off a draw (+865).
City are unbeaten in their last 20 Champions League matches and have scored three goals in each of their UCL games in 2023-24. Here, City over 2.5 goals sits at -145 odds but under 3.5 goals are priced at -115 Man City vs Copenhagen odds. Copenhagen only show even odds to cover the +2, +2.5 Asian handicap.
