F1 Drivers Ranked: Let’s Break Down the 2023 Grid

Join us as we give our Formula 1 driver-top-10 power rankings from this season's grid.

We’re three events deep into the 2023 F1 season, and it’s time to dish out some unwarranted opinions. Join us as we give our Formula 1 driver-top-10 power rankings from this season’s grid.

1. Max Verstappen (Red Bull)

Who else? But no, seriously! Can anybody on this grid genuinely stop Max Verstappen from making them suck on his slipstream? He exceeded the 400-point threshold in 2022 en route to a dominant championship-winning season. This man won 15 races last year and has already won two of the three events this season.

Alongside his Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez, who notably won the outlying race Verstappen didn’t win this season, they sit atop the constructors’ and drivers’ standings and equally look primed to piss all over the competition in 2023.

2. Sergio Perez (Red Bull)

He isn’t fucking around this season, as a mere three points stopped Sergio Perez from taking second place in the F1 drivers’ standings of 2022. Don’t expect the pride of Mexican motorsports to take it easy this term.

Perez finished second at the F1 2023 season opener in Bahrain and then outperformed his teammate at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix with a first-place finish.

You know what they say, “Greatness breeds greatness,” so Verstappen’s success will unquestionably rub off on his teammate, who no longer wants to be known as the partner of Verstappen, but as a man who can challenge his formidable colleague.

3. Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes)

Ok, don’t start giving me shit for placing Lewis Hamilton this high on the list. I’m entirely aware of his 2022 F1 performance, but can he do worse than sixth in the drivers’ standings? We must refresh our minds about who we’re talking about here.

Statistically, yes, 2022 was the worst of Hamilton’s career. However, this doesn’t project the entire story. This beast has been stomping on the competition for years, he’s a seven-time world champion, and his lackluster last year’s season is still levels above the majority of the grid. Furthermore, Mercedes can take a chunk of the blame for his 2022 finish, as Hamilton succumbed to the team’s experimental process for the first ten races – wankers!

4. Lando Norris (McLaren)

I wouldn’t argue that Lando Norris could be positioned in the top three of any F1 rankings. This fucker has been on fire over the past few seasons. Alongside Hamilton & Russell, the British are serving more than tea & crumpets, as the Formula 1 talent levels from the UK are royally bending the competition over.

It’s easy to overlook Norris’ talents, but considering the midfield cars he’s dealt with, his driving has consistently outperformed the wheels under him. Despite having the fifth fastest car on the grid, the 23-year-old only finished outside the top ten on four occasions and placed in the top seven in over 50% of the 22 races in 2022.

5. George Russell (Mercedes)

Some would position George Russell above his Mercedes teammate Hamilton due to last season’s drivers’ standings, finishing 35 points ahead of him with a shit-show of a car. It’s a shame Russell made his Merc debut in conjunction with the team’s first shit car from the last decade. However, with the new season under way, hopefully, the team can avoid messing up their driver’s true potential.

6. Charles Leclerc (Ferrari)

Ferrari’s overpowering success of the past has wilted over the past decade, but Charles Leclerc is doing an incredible job of revitalizing the team’s name. He should probably be higher on the list, given his second-place position in the 2022 championship standings. The only reason he isn’t is that reliability and strategy haven’t been his strongest suit.

Crashing out midway through the French Grand Prix took a dump on Ferrari’s hope of stopping Verstappen, and with the crash at Imola, there’s room for improvement for this young buck.

7. Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin)

Goodbye Alpine, hello Aston Martin. The two-time world champion had an incredible 2022, but Fernando Alonso claims he could’ve done a lot better if it hadn’t been for the events outside of his control; in other words, fuck Alpine.

Once he signed to Aston Martin following the Hungarian Grand Prix, throwing the middle finger to Alpine became apparent, his driving became selfish, and he even crashed into his teammate Esteban Ocon in Brazil – rebel.

8. Carlos Sainz Jr. (Ferrari)

He’s the less talented driver at Ferrari, dropping an average of 0.189s to Leclerc in qualifying last term. However, Carlos Sainz continues to display improvements, and he’s already placed in the top five and top ten this season.

It would seem Sainz has finally adapted his driving style to F1’s new breed of car, an issue he was presented with last season. Although he’ll likely be big-brothered by the skills of Leclerc, together, they’re capable of challenging all of the top g’s competing for this year’s constructors championship.

9. Esteban Ocon (Alpine)

No cigarettes, wine, or frog legs will be found distracting this smooth Frenchman. Esteban Ocon surprisingly finished above his experienced teammate Fernando Alonso last season. Although the Spaniard was a piece of shit partner later in the season, he doesn’t have to worry about that this term, as Alonso has moved on.

Saying that… we can’t forget that Ocon and his new partner Pierre Gasly posted the same photo on IG but cropped each other out. Let’s hope they don’t cut each other off on the track.

10. Valtteri Bottas (Alfa Romeo)

It doesn’t matter how he performs this season; a man with such an impressive mustache deserves respect on the grid. Jokes aside, but not really a joke, Bottas led Alfa Romeo to their best championship position in a decade, bagging 49 of the team’s total 55 points.

The rookie season of Zhou Guanyu wasn’t horrid, but let’s be honest, it didn’t leave us overly impressed either. So Bottas, gear up, buddy, and brush that mustache off because Alfa will rely on you to secure all the points again in 2023.
