Premier League Heating Up

Chelsea vs. Manchester United the Weekend Headliner

Chelsea vs. Manchester United has been one of the best rivalries in the Premier League for a while now. They’ll meet for the first time this season on Saturday and the winner will occupy a top four spot. While Chelsea vs. Man U is the headliner, there are a bunch of fascinating games to bet on this weekend. Let’s review the EPL Matchday 13 odds and take a look at the best matches of the weekend.

Games of the Weekend:

Manchester City vs. Brighton:

Brighton & Hove Albion FC had countless opportunities to defeat Nottingham Forest on Tuesday but couldn’t seem to put the ball in the back of the net. The Seagulls drew 0-0 and are still looking for their first win under Roberto de Zerbi. Now, they’ll head to Manchester on Saturday to take on a well-rested Manchester City side. The Cityzens are coming off their first loss of the season as they fell to Liverpool 1-0 last Sunday.

Erling Haaland failed to score for the first time in his last 11 matches for Manchester City FC in all competitions. He’ll certainly be looking to get back on track here as City come in as -550 favorites. Since earning promotion to the EPL in 2017, the Seagulls have had quite a rough time in this fixture. They’ve won just one of 11 meetings in all competitions and the EPL Matchday 13 odds price them as +1300 underdogs. Still, Brighton did manage to earn a 3-3 draw at Liverpool in De Zerbi’s first match in charge.

City are two-goal favorites and all of their seven Premier League wins have been by a two-goal margin or more. Pep Guardiola’s side sit at even-money odds to cover, while Brighton +2 is listed at -120 odds. Last season, City outscored Brighton 7-1 over two matches and the Seagulls have never won at the Etihad Stadium.

Chelsea vs. Manchester United:

Graham Potter has gotten off to a solid start as Chelsea boss. The former Brighton manager is yet to preside over a defeat and the Blues have reached the top four. Now he’ll try to defeat Erik ten Hag and Manchester United for the second time this season. Brighton defeated Manchester United at Old Trafford on Matchday 1 and now Chelsea are -105 favorites.

Manchester United are coming off of a crucial 2-0 win over Tottenham on Wednesday. Fred and Bruno Fernandes were on the scoresheet in another impressive victory. They’ve already beaten Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham this season but all were at Old Trafford. Away from home, the Red Devils are 3-2 in the Premier League this season. The Premier League betting odds price Man U as +280 underdogs heading into Saturday’s match.

It’s worth noting that Manchester United FC are unbeaten in their last six matches at Stamford Bridge. Also, the last four meetings between these two teams have finished in draws where two or fewer goals have been scored. A draw sits at +275 odds, while bettors might like under 2½ at +110. Both defenses have been solid lately. Chelsea are on a five-match shutout streak in all competitions while Man U have conceded just one Premier League goal in their last three matches.

Tottenham vs. Newcastle:

Miguel Almiron scored his fourth goal in the last four games as Newcastle defeated Everton 1-0 on Wednesday. The Magpies have gone under the radar but have been one of the league’s strongest teams this season. They still have just one loss in 2022-23, which is on par with Arsenal and Manchester City. Newcastle’s record is at serious risk when they head to North London on Sunday. The Magpies face a Tottenham Hotspur FC side who lost 2-0 to Manchester United midweek and should be motivated.

Spurs show -110 odds to win but could potentially be missing a pair of attacking players. Dejan Kulusevski is listed as day-to-day while Richarlison is out for a longer period. Meanwhile, right back Emerson Royal is poised to return from a three-match suspension.

Almiron’s rise for Newcastle has also coincided with injury woes for Allan Saint-Maximin. Saint-Maximin, one of the best dribblers in the league, could miss out again Sunday.

This fixture produced a lot of goals last season, 12 to be exact. Both teams have scored in each of the last five meetings but Newcastle’s defense is looking quite strong. They’ve conceded the fewest goals in the league and have kept consecutive clean sheets. Newcastle United FC sit at +290 odds to win their first match vs. Tottenham in the last six meetings. Meanwhile, over 2½ unsurprisingly shows -130 odds.

Other Noteworthy Matches

Nottingham Forest spent €162m this Summer to put together a team that could survive the Premier League. Thus far, it hasn’t gone according to plan as they entered the week in 19th place of 20 teams. Now, they’ll take on a resurgent Liverpool side who have beaten Manchester City in West Ham in the span of a week. The EPL Matchday 13 odds list Liverpool as -400 favorites. They’re also two-goal favorites but haven’t won a road match in four tries in the EPL this season.

Arsenal’s last trip to Southampton was a heartbreaking one. It’ll likely still be on the minds of a lot of Arsenal’s players as they later missed out on the top four. The Gunners lost 1-0 back in April at St. Mary’s but they’ve been in excellent form this season. Arsenal are on top of the standings in Premier League soccer. Meanwhile, Southampton, seem to be fighting off relegation, and come in as +450 underdogs. Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal sit at -175 odds to win their fifth straight EPL match.
