EPL Matchday 23 Odds

An Atypical Merseyside Derby

Main Title Contenders Both Fall

Everton provided even more evidence for the new manager bounce as they defeated Arsenal 1-0 last Saturday. Sean Dyche’s Toffees will now try to escape the relegation zone as they take on Liverpool in Monday’s Merseyside Derby.

Arsenal’s loss also opened up the door for second-placed Manchester City to close the five-point gap; however, City’s poor form at Tottenham continued as Spurs won 1-0 on a Harry Kane goal.

The league’s top contenders will now try to bounce back this weekend as Arsenal take on Brentford and City host Aston Villa. We’ll review the EPL Matchday 23 odds from these games, the Merseyside Derby and more.

Premier League leaders Arsenal lost just their second match of the season on Saturday at Everton. Sean Dyche’s Everton frustrated the Gunners as the Toffees managed a shutout. Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal will try to bounce back on Saturday as they host Brentford at the Emirates Stadium. Brentford are currently unbeaten in their last nine EPL fixtures and are in contention for a European spot.

This may not end up being such a straightforward match for the Gunners but they are 1½-goal favorites heading into the match. They sit at +115 odds to cover the spread and -250 odds to win the match. Each previous time Arsenal have drawn or lost in the EPL this season, they’ve won their next match.

Thomas Frank’s Brentford show -135 odds to cover but just +700 odds to win the match. Arsenal defeated Brentford 2-1 at the Emirates last EPL season and won this season’s reverse fixture, 3-0. A draw also comes in at +385 odds.

Pontus Jansson and Frank Onyeka are nearing injury returns for Brentford.

Meanwhile, Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus remains out. In the meantime, Eddie Nketiah has led the line and often done well. However, Arsenal have failed to score in each of their last two matches in all competitions.

Brentford have also kept three straight shutouts in the EPL as GK David Raya has been excellent lately. Regardless, over 2½ goals display -140 odds for Saturday’s match.

MCIManchester City vs Aston VillaAVL

Date & Time:
Location: Etihad Stadium

Erling Haaland failed to register an attempt on goal for the first time this season in the 1-0 loss at Tottenham. It was a rare off day from the premier League’s leading scorer. Playing at the Etihad vs. Aston Villa on Sunday, he’ll certainly expect himself to score.

The bookies are certainly expecting Manchester City to score as well, as their over/under goal total is 2½ goals for the match. The under currently sits at -125 odds, though. Regardless, Pep Guardiola’s City enter Sunday as two-goal favorites.

Phil Foden missed the match vs. Tottenham with an illness but he’s expected to feature on Sunday. Meanwhile, Aston Villa conceded four on Matchday 22 in a loss to Leicester City. Their form had previously been quite good under Unai Emery but they’re +1000 underdogs.

City come in at +115 odds to cover the two-goal spread while Villa show -135 odds. Villa haven’t defeated City for almost ten years but they did manage a 1-1 draw earlier this season.

Note that Manchester City have scored 2.9 goals per game vs. Aston Villa in the last ten meetings in all competitions. The EPL Matchday 23 odds price Man City at -415 odds to win and a draw at +550. With how high scoring this fixture has been in recent seasons, over three goals sits at -125 odds.

BOUBournemouth vs NewcastleNEW

Date & Time:
Location: Vitality Stadium

Newcastle’s unbeaten run in the EPL continued as they drew 1-1 vs. West Ham last weekend. Incredibly, they’re unbeaten since August and haven’t lost in any of their last 16 Premier League matches. With just one loss all season, Eddie Howe’s Magpies have the fewest losses in the league.

Still, the top four hopefuls have drawn four of their last five matches. A draw shows +320 odds for Saturday’s matchup with Bournemouth. Newcastle enter as one-goal road favorites and sit at -115 odds to cover and -190 odds to win.

Meanwhile, Bournemouth have struggled mightily since the World Cup break ended and don’t have a win since November. They brought in reinforcements like Hamed Traore and Dango Ouattara in January. Still, Brighton shut them out 1-0 last weekend. AFC Bournemouth come into the match at -105 odds to cover and just +550 odds to win at home.

Both EPL teams have had problems scoring recently. Bournemouth have just one goal in their last five matches and Newcastle have scored twice. So, it’s no surprise that under 2½ goals shows -115 odds here.

LEELeeds United vs. Manchester UnitedMUN

Date & Time:
Location: Old Trafford Stadium

Leeds United sacked Jesse Marsch after falling 1-0 to Nottingham Forest on Sunday. Now, two tough matches vs. Manchester United await in the span of a week. Leeds are yet to name a new head coach but they’ll need to act quickly to right the ship.

LUFC are only out of the relegation zone on goal difference. They also have massive matches vs. fellow strugglers Everton and Southampton after this. First, Leeds head to Old Trafford on Wednesday and host United again on Sunday. Currently, Man United sit at -130 ATS and moneyline odds to win the second match.

Home side Leeds show just +110 odds to cover the ½-goal spread and +325 odds to win the match. Man United, who are firmly in the top four now, will be missing midfielder Casemiro in both matches vs. Leeds, he picked up a straight red card in the 2-1 win vs. Crystal Palace and is suspended for three matches.

Manchester United are 3-1-0 vs. Leeds since LUFC’s promotion in 2020. A draw shows +300 odds while under three goals comes in at -120 EPL Matchday 23 odds.

LIVLiverpool vs. EvertonEVE

Date & Time:
Location: Anfield Stadium

Usually there’s a lot of excitement surrounding the Merseyside Derby between Liverpool rivals Liverpool FC and Everton. It’s rare that both teams are struggling to even be in the top half of the English Premier League standings.

However, Liverpool enter the weekend in 10th and suffered an embarrassing 3-0 defeat to Wolves on Matchday 22. Meanwhile, Everton finally showed grit and determination by winning 1-0 vs. Arsenal under new manager Sean Dyche.

The former Burnley boss is renowned for his tactical acumen and the defensive soundness of his teams. A result here would be huge for Everton’s chances to avoid relegation as they currently sit in 18th.

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are winless in their last four EPL matches but come in as one-goal favorites. Against the spread, the Reds sit at -115 odds and Everton display -105 odds. Liverpool haven’t at all been themselves lately and have failed to score in their last three EPL games.

Mo Salah has found the net just seven times this season and hasn’t gotten much help. Still, Liverpool are -190 favorites, while Everton come in at +500 odds. A draw, which occurred in the reverse fixture, shows +340 odds.

Away wins are typically quite rare in the Merseyside Derby but both teams have won on the road in the last two years. Goals are expected to provide some excitement on Monday as over 2½ come in at -125 odds.
