Relegation Fighters vs League Leaders

Liverpool’s Injury Crisis Continues
Liverpool miraculously won the EFL Cup title over Chelsea last weekend despite fielding four teenagers in the final. The Reds’ injury crisis is still in full force and they’ll be short handed on Saturday at Nottingham Forest. Forest will look to take advantage of Liverpool’s misfortune and they need all of the points they can get. Nottingham Forest are currently just four points outside of the Premier Leagues’ relegation zone at the moment. We’ll check out the Forest vs Liverpool odds ahead of Saturday’s EPL clash.

Forest vs Liverpool Head-to-Head
These teams have met just four times since the turn of the century, with Liverpool 3-1 in those matches. When they met at Anfield, back in October, Liverpool came away with a 3-0 victory as Diogo Jota, Darwin Nuñez and Mohamed Salah got on the scoresheet. The Reds did lose 1-0 at the City Ground last season but have historically been the better soccer betting pick in this fixture. Liverpool are 41-24-19 all-time in this fixture.
Nottingham Forest Crash Out of FA Cup
Nottingham Forest fell behind 3-0 at Aston Villa last weekend and Forest ended up losing 4-2. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are still looking for their first Premier League road victory of 2024. At home, they’ve managed an almost-respectable 4-3-6 record. Nottingham Forest are in a precarious position at the moment, in 17th place in the Premier League standings. They are just five points outside of the relegation zone and could be drawn into a relegation fight.
On Wednesday, Forest hosted Manchester United in the fifth round of the FA Cup. Manchester United nearly scored a couple times in the first half but Matt Turner made some key stops. Antony also hit the post for the Red Devils. United found a breakthrough in the 89th minute and Forest fell 1-0. It means that Nottingham Forest have now won just one of their last nine 90-minute matches, in all competitions.
Now, the Nottingham Forest vs Liverpool odds price Forest as +460 underdogs for Saturday’s match. Nuno has a few injury concerns ahead of this one as well. Ola Aina, Ibrahim Sangare and Willy Boly have unknown return dates from injuries they picked up at the Africa Cup of Nations. Meanwhile, Nuno Tavares and leading scorer Chris Wood are out for this one.
Liverpool’s Youth Movement in Full Force
Jurgen Klopp called winning last Sunday’s EFL Cup final over Chelsea his “most special trophy” and it’s not hard to see why. Liverpool were missing no fewer than eight potential starters and Klopp was forced to play four teenagers in the final. It was a wild match, especially for a scoreless draw in normal time. It featured disallowed goals for both sides and both teams also hit the woodwork. After Virgil van Dijk’s second half header was disallowed for a Wataru Endo offside, Van Dijk struck again on a corner in extra time.
Liverpool came away with the 1-0 win and their first piece of silverware of the season. Caoimhin Kelleher was excellent in goal with Alisson out and made some key stops to preserve the Reds’ clean sheet. Klopp will rely on him heavily until Alisson returns, likely in April. Liverpool enter the weekend in the Premier League lead, one point ahead of Manchester City and two points ahead of Arsenal. On Wednesday, Liverpool’s precocious teenagers impressed once again.
Lewis Koumas scored on his senior debut, while Jayden Danns found the net twice as a substitute in the 3-0 FA Cup win over Southampton. The youth movement is happening due to the number of injuries. Mo Salah ranks second among the EPL goal leaders, with 15 but he’s been out for the last few matches.
He joins Alisson, Wataru Endo, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ryan Gravenberch, Darwin Nuñez, Diogo Jota, Curtis Jones, Thiago, Dominik Szobszlai and Joel Matip on the injured list. It’s possible that Salah, Nuñe and Szoboszlai feature here, though.
Forest vs Liverpool Match Analysis & Odds
This is another difficult match for Nottingham Forest, who can’t seem to catch a break recently. Forest do have an incredibly important match coming up at Luton Town in a few weeks but can give themselves some insurance by picking up points here and there. Even with Liverpool’s long injury list, Forest are still underdogs for this match.
The Forest vs Liverpool odds currently price hosts Nottingham Forest as +460 underdogs. At the same time, Liverpool are -190 favorites even though they may sport a modified midfield and front three. With all of the injuries, defender Joe Gomez played in central midfield vs. Southampton. Klopp has Alexis Mac Allister fresh but it’s unclear whether Dominik Szoboszlai will return for this one.
If Salah can’t suit up, Klopp could go with Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo and Harvey Elliott up top. Even with all the tinkering that may need to be done, Liverpool -1 sits at -115 odds. Bettors can take Forest +1 at +105 and a draw at +375. Over three goals are priced at -140 odds as both teams are expected to get on the scoresheet.
