IEM Rio 2023 Betting Odds: Top Teams, Tournament Format, and Betting Odds

Battle for Glory in Brazil: IEM Rio 2023 Showdown and Betting Insights

CS:GO is heading back to Brazil! The IEM Rio 2023 Betting Odds will see 16 teams compete for the event’s $250,000 prize pool and a direct invite to IEM Cologne 2023. However, unlike last year’s event, the Brazilian tournament will not be a Major. Currently, the only CS:GO Major announced in 2023 is the BLAST.TV Paris Major in May. I

Alongside the participation of ESL Pro Tour partner teams and qualified teams, Brazilian esports organization FURIA has been invited to the event as a ‘local hero invite.’ Like the 2022 IEM Rio Major, the competition will again occur at the Jeunesse Arena. However, ESL has announced that the look of the tournament will be slightly different. Instead of having a center stage, the layout will adopt a front-stage format.

There is a lot to get to let, so’s dive right in!

Participating Teams

ESL and Valve have upped the ante and are bringing 16 teams to IEM Rio 2023 Betting Odds instead of the standard 12. Each team has fought hard through qualifying to get here. Here are all 16 teams with their esports betting odds to win the tournament.

Tournament Format

The IEM Rio 2023 Betting Odds will start with the 16 qualified teams splitting into two groups of eight. However, this will not play out like normal Swiss-style group stages. Instead, the groups play in a bracket-style competition where the losing teams drop to a lower bracket. Two teams from the Upper Bracket and one from the Lower qualify for the playoffs. The opening match will be a Bo1, while the rest of the tournament will play a Bo3.

The playoffs will be a single elimination playoff with all matches played to a Bo3. The Grand Final will be the only difference with a Bo5. The top teams from each group will automatically qualify for the semifinal, the second place will play as the high seed in the quarterfinal, and the lower bracket winners will play as the low seed.

Here are the dates for each round:

  • Group Stage: 4/17 – 4/19
  • Quarterfinal: 4/21
  • Semifinal: 4/22
  • Grand Final: 4/23

Teams to Watch

16 teams have worked their tails off to qualify for the IEM Rio 2023 Betting Odds, but only one can gain automatic placement into the IEM Cologne. Out of the 16 teams, there are three standouts that every esports bettor should watch throughout the tournament.

Here are those three teams, along with esports betting tips as to why you should watch them. Natus Vincere (NAVI)NAVI has long been a fan-favorite team – though some may argue that their best days are behind them. Indeed, the Ukrainian superstar team has yet to live up to their incredible 2021 record, which saw them dominate the CS:GO scene with wins at IEM Cologne, PGL Major Stockholm, and the BLAST Premier World Fina.

Their record since then has been somewhat less impressive, with many pointing to the ongoing war in the home country as an understandable distraction for the team. Still, they just claimed a first-place spot at the BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023: European RMR, and there’s every hope that they’ll be bringing that momentum with them to IEM Rio 2023 Betting Odds next week.

Team Vitality Team Vitality may not have quite as impressive history as NAVI, but they’ve proven capable of coming out on top when it matters. The French powerhouse’s run through 2023 has been slightly underwhelming – with the high point coming in January when they achieved a 1st-3rd place result at BLAST Premier: Spring. Unfortunately, their performance at the last IEM Rio left much to be desired, with the team ending the tournament nowhere near where they wanted. However, as their first-place victory at ESL Pro League Season 16 demonstrates, they’re still a team who can surprise.

Heroic While the Danish team has yet to reach the heights of FaZe or NAVI, they’ve still pulled off some terrific performances in recent years. Their high point of 2023 so far came in February, when they made it to the IEM Katowice Grand Final – only to lose to a terrific G2 Esports side.

Still, it was an incredible run for Heroic, with the team showing off the skills that saw them being crowned the champions of the 2022 BLAST: Premier Fall Finals. Of course, the team will face stiff competition in Rio, but their track record proves they have what it takes to claim their first tournament win at IEM Rio 2023.
