IEM Rio 2023 Playoffs Odds Preview: FURIA Esports Aims to Thrill Fans

Surprise Exits: Top Teams Out

After a thrilling round of group-stage matches, we’re on to the IEM Rio 2023 Playoffs! The most surprising team missing from the playoffs is FaZe Clan, who was touted to make it far in Rio. However, the hometown hero, FURIA, knocked them out in the upper bracket semifinals. Other notable teams missing are OG, MIBR, MOUZ, and Fnatic. Regardless, each team in the IEM Rio 2023 Playoffs earned their spots.

There’s a fair amount to get to, so let’s dive into the IEM Rio 2023 Playoffs!

Playoff Preview

Heroic and Vitality round out the quarter-finalists, and Cloud9 and Natus Vincere advance straight to the semifinals on day three of the tournament.

Action will return on Friday with the quarter-finals of the $250,000 tournament. Vitality and BIG will take the stage in a rematch from last week’s affair between the two teams at the BLAST.tv Paris Major Europe RMR, in which Vitality came out on top 2-1.

For the second time in less than six months, Heroic will play against the hometown favorites, FURIA, inside the Jeunesse Arena. Last time around, the Danish squad silenced the Brazilian fans as they ended FURIA’s Cinderella run in the IEM Rio Major semifinals in November.

In the semifinals played on Saturday, Cloud9 awaits the winner of Vitality and BIG after winning Group B. NAVI sits on the other end in the second semifinal as the Group A winners, potentially setting us up for another Major playoff rematch should FURIA move on.

Team to Watch

The clear favorites out of the six qualified teams are Cloud9 and NAVI. They always win! However, one team could disrupt everything in the IEM Rio 2023 Playoffs. That team is the hometown hero, FURIA Esports.

FURIA Esports

FURIA have confirmed their place at the IEM Rio 2023 Playoffs, and the Brazilian team has the potential to cause mayhem on the big stage.

With an early run of Fanatic, FaZe Clan, and Cloud9, FURIA was undoubtedly handed a challenging bracket. However, that didn’t stop them from running rampant, becoming the only Brazilian roster to qualify for the IEM Rio 2023 Playoffs. Swift’s exits for the other Brazilian teams, MIBR and Imperial, saw added pressure on FURIA, who efficiently responded.

Brazil has always been a home for CS:GO. Built by giants like FalleN and Fer, the scene remains as strong as ever. It’s a massive part of the reason that Rio seems to be becoming a staple of professional CS:GO tournaments, and we should see plenty more there in years to come.

We saw the impact a Brazilian home crowd could make at last year’s IEM Rio Major 2022. FURIA made a considerable impact there, with a Semifinal run representing the team’s best-ever Major performance. Sometimes, it seemed the crowd single-handedly carried FURIA through some rounds. Stay tuned right here for the latest CS:GO Standings.
