M4 World Championship Odds and Preview

$800,000 On The Line!

The M4 World Championship officially kicked off on New Year’s Day. The first 2023 esports event will feature 16 top-tier teams from 12 different regions competing for the glory of being the next world champion. They will also be competing with $800,000 on the line.

The M3 World Champions, Blacklist International, are in Jakarta, eager to defend their title and claim the top prize of $300,000. The M4 World Championship is the last tournament in the 2022 Esports season.

Last year’s World Championship, held in Singapore, proved a resounding success, peaking at nearly 3.2 million viewers in two matches, according to Esports Charts. The M4 World Championship may shatter that record and become the most popular event in Mobile Legends’ history.

The group stage had a peak viewership of nearly 1.7 million viewers, and more fans are expected to tune in as we enter the tournament’s knockout stages.

  • Sixteen teams are split into four groups of 4 teams.
  • Single round robin, all matches are played in a BO1.
  • Group Top 2 advances to Playoffs Upper Bracket
  • Group Bottom 2 advances to Playoffs Lower Bracket

Knockout Stage:

  • Double elimination
  • Sixteen teams play in a double-elimination bracket.
  • Eight teams begin in the Upper Bracket and eight in the Lower Bracket.
  • The first two rounds of the Lower Bracket will play in a BO3 series. After that, Grand Final is BO7, and teams will play the rest in a BO5 match.

Tiebreaker Rule

If multiple teams have the same score, tiebreaker criteria will decide who will be the leading team;

2-way Tiebreaker

  • The upper position will be decided by the previous head-to-head.

3-way Tiebreaker

  • The organizers will sort the winning match time of the three teams in ascending order.
  • The bottom two teams will face each other in a Bo1 match, and the winner will meet the team with the fastest game win. The winner will get the upper position.

Knockout Stage Matchups

The knockout matches are set, and we are ready for the next round of the M4 World Championship! The Knockout Stage starts on January 7th and will go through the 15th.

Upper Quarterfinals

  • Falcon (+114) vs. ONIC (-164)
  • ECHO (-455) vs. Team HAQ (+271)
  • TODAK (-108) vs. RRQ Hoshi (-133)
  • RRQ Akira (+395) vs. Blacklist International (-769)

The top match to watch for esports odds has to be TODAK vs. Hoshi. Both teams are fairly even regarding betting odds, but TODAK was one of the only teams to go undefeated. On the other hand, Hoshi has incredible team chemistry, so that they could pull out a surprise win.

Lower Bracket Round 1

  • RSG Singapore (-400) vs. S11 Argentina (+243)
  • INC (-385) vs. MDH (+238)
  • The Valley (-135) vs. Burn (+255)
  • Malvinas (-263) vs. Occupy Thrones (+175)

The lower bracket matchups all seem one-sided, according to the esports odds; however, in every esports tournament, the lower brackets are always the most surprising to watch. The number of upsets that you see in these rounds is insane. With that in mind, Malvinas vs. Occupy will be the match to watch.

Both teams want to turn their form around and make a surprise run.
