Atalanta vs Bayer Leverkusen Head-to-Head

Atalanta and Bayer Leverkusen have only met twice previously on the UEFA Europa League schedule. In the 2021-22 Europa League last 16, Atalanta won both matches vs Leverkusen to advance to the Quarter-Finals.

La Dea won 3-2 in Bergamo and 1-0 in Germany. It’s worth noting that none of the goalscorers from either fixture still play for Atalanta or Bayer Leverkusen. This is just the third opportunity to bet on Atalanta vs Leverkusen odds, in all competitions.

De Ketelaere, Scamacca in Form for Atalanta

Atalanta won 2-0 on the road at Lecce in Serie A on Saturday to clinch a spot in the UEFA Champions League for the first time in three years.

Charles De Ketelaere made an instant impact as a substitute as he chipped Lecce keeper Wladimiro Falcone in the 48th minute. Gianluca Scamacca, who provided the assist, beat Falcone to a corner to head in Atalanta’s second.

La Dea also played in the Coppa Italia Final last Wednesday vs Juventus but fell 1-0. Atalanta out-possessed Juve 66-34 but Gian Piero Gasperini’s men didn’t put a single shot on target. Regardless, Atalanta have been in excellent form as of late.

They have won five straight games on the Serie A schedule and have scored two goals in six of their last eight games, in all competitions. De Ketelaere and Scamacca have both been superb lately.

The former has registered four goal contributions in his last four games and the latter has five in his last six. Teun Koopmeiners is another goal threat but La Dea’s leading scorer in Serie A hasn’t found the net in the Europa League yet.

Atalanta have lost just one of their 12 Europa League fixtures this campaign and famously beat Liverpool 3-0 at Anfield in the first leg of the Quarter-Finals. In the Semifinal, Atalanta beat Marseille 4-1 on aggregate.

They’ve failed to score in just one Europa League match and have one of the better offenses in Europe at the moment. While Marten De Roon and Sead Kolasinac with both miss this match, defender Emil Holm is listed as doubtful.

Bayer Leverkusen Beating the Odds

With their 2-1 win vs Augsburg, Bayer Leverkusen finished the 2023-24 Bundesliga season with an unprecedented 28-6-0 record. Leverkusen have come seemingly out of nowhere to rattle off the longest-ever unbeaten streak in the age of UEFA competitions.

There are clear reasons for their success, though. Xabi Alonso has a clear playstyle he wants his team to implement and he has the perfect personnel to execute it.

Wingbacks Alex Grimaldo and Jeremie Frimpong will frequently be involved in the action on Wednesday.

Granit Xhaka, whose redemption arc at Arsenal was nothing short of remarkable, plays as a roaming midfielder and he relentlessly puts defenses under pressure with his passing.

Florian Wirtz won the Bundesliga player of the season and has established himself as one of the best creators in Europe. Leverkusen have a bunch of players who can bail them out of sticky situations, like strikers Victor Boniface and Patrik Schick.

Leverkusen are known for their comebacks and they’ve scored in stoppage time no fewer than 10 times this season.

The Leverkusen standings show they finished in first place in their group and have knocked out Qarabag, West Ham and AS Roma en route to the UEL Final. Wirtz has been nursing an injury but expect him to start on Wednesday. Defender Odilon Kossounou should be the only absentee for Alonso’s side.

Atalanta vs Bayer Leverkusen Match Analysis & Odds

With news of Atalanta’s UCL qualification, they don’t have to win this match to play in the Champions League. Still, the prospect of their first European title should be more than enough to motivate the Bergamo side here.

Meanwhile, Bayer Leverkusen haven’t won a European trophy since the 1988 UEFA Cup. With the DFB-Pokal Final on Saturday for Leverkusen, they need to win just two more games to complete a first-ever unbeaten treble.

Currently, the Atalanta vs Leverkusen odds imply Leverkusen have a good shot to continue their invincible campaign. The German champions are -125 favorites in 90 minutes and show -240 odds to lift the trophy overall. Atalanta have already suffered Coppa Italia heartbreak and they’ll want to put in a better offensive performance this week.

The Bergamo side are +330 90-minute underdogs and show +190 odds to come away with the trophy overall. Atalanta +0.5 also sits at -110 odds.

The last three Europa League finals have finished 1-1 and ended in penalties. Neither side are the type to play for a draw (+280) though. Over 2.5 goals sit at -115 odds and Leverkusen have failed to score just once all season. No matter the winner, history will be made in an excellent UEL Final matchup.
