Euro 2024 Favorites England Take on Serbia

Group C: Serbia vs England Euro Odds

Serbia Thinking Upset

England got as far as a team can possibly get without winning the European Championship at Euro 2020. The Three Lions took Italy to penalties but fell in a shootout. Now, England are Euro 2024 favorites and open up their campaign vs Serbia. Serbia will be thinking upset and they’ve got a couple of highly-talented strikers. We’ll take a closer look at the Serbia vs England Euro odds for this Group C opener.

Serbia vs England Head-to-Head:

Since Serbia and Montenegro split in 2006, England have never played Serbia. In 2003, England won 2-1 in a friendly vs Serbia and Montenegro and that was their only meeting. So, this is the first opportunity to bet on the Serbia vs England Euro odds.

Mitrovic, Vlahovic, Milinkovic-Savic Standouts for Serbia

Serbia managed to defeat Sweden 3-0 in their final warmup match before their UEFA Euro games. While they’ve qualified for three of the last four World Cups, this is Serbia’s first appearance at the Euros as an independent nation. While inconsistent, there are certainly reasons to be excited about this team. For one, they have two excellent strikers, Aleksandar Mitrovic and Dusan Vlahovic.

Mitrovic is Serbia’s all-time leading scorer, while only Lautaro Martinez scored more goals than Vlahovic in Serie A last season. Sergej Milinkovic-Savic turned heads by moving to Saudi Arabia in his prime, but the midfielder is still one of the tournament’s best. Meanwhile, Dusan Tadic is one of the best playmakers in Europe.

While capable of beating almost anyone on a one-off, Serbia haven’t strung together results consistently. In the last year, they’re 5-2-5, and they finished 4-2-2 in Euro Qualifiers. We’re not sure how Serbia’s backline will hold up, either. They conceded eight goals in three matches at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

England: World Class Attack

England are one of the most popular soccer picks to win Euro 2024. No other team in the tournament has as much attacking depth as the Three Lions. Harry Kane is coming off an incredible season for Bayern Munich, and the striker is a Golden Boot candidate. Bukayo Saka and Phil Foden, who won the Premier League Player of the Season Award, are excellent complementary pieces, while Cole Palmer, Jarrod Bowen and Ollie Watkins all had excellent club seasons.

Gareth Southgate finally listened to his critics and picked players based on form. He left former favorites Jordan Henderson and Kalvin Phillips out of his squad and made the big call to leave Jack Grealish home. That has resulted in a young midfield, with Declan Rice, La Liga Player of the Season Jude Bellingham, and one of Trent Alexander-Arnold or Conor Gallagher.

Harry Maguire is out of the squad due to injury, which means Marc Guehi will likely step in at center back. John Stones and Luke Shaw have also been dealing with injury issues. So, this is an England squad with major questions at the back but world class talent up front. The UEFA Euro lines still list England as +350 favorites to win the tournament.

Match Analysis & Odds

England lost to Iceland in their final pre-tournament friendly, which could be a harbinger of things to come. Despite all of their talent, England are vulnerable and we could see them suffering a hiccup in the group as well. Serbia are +670 underdogs but we wouldn’t be shocked if they pull off the first major upset of the tournament.

Bettors can find England at -215, and even though they’re dealing with some injury issues, they did go unbeaten in qualifiers. Serbia +1, +1.5 sits at -125, while England -1, -1.5 comes in at -105. A draw would certainly keep Group C, which also contains Slovenia and Denmark, interesting.

The Serbia vs England Euro odds price a deadlock at +350. Both over and under 2.5 goals show -115 odds for this one, which will showcase some top attacking talents on both sides. However, England have averaged just 1.2 goals per game in their last five matches despite boasting Kane, Foden and Saka.
