France Still Looking for First Open Play Goal
Spain vs France Euro Semifinal: Three Players Out for Spain

Spain Outlasted Hosts Germany
In the Spain vs France Euro Semifinal, Spain, who defeated Germany 2-1 in extra time in the Quarter-Finals, will be missing three key players. Defenders Robin Le Normand and Dani Carvajal are suspended, while Pedri is out injured.
That will encourage France, who still haven’t scored a goal from open play. Two of their goals have been own goals and one has come on a penalty. Still, France have been superb defensively. They drew 0-0 against Portugal in the Quarters before winning in penalties and they’ll look to defend their way to the final. Before these European heavyweights meet, read on for our match preview and the relevant betting odds.

Spain vs France Head-to-Head
Spain and France last faced off in the 2021 UEFA Nations Final. Mikel Oyarzabal struck first for Spain but goals from Karim Benzema and Kylian Mbappe completed France’s 2-1 comeback.
Over the last five meetings, this fixture is all square, with both teams 2-1-2. Seven of the last eight matches between these two teams have finished with two goals or fewer. All-time, Spain lead the series 16-13, with seven draws.

De La Fuente to Make Two Defensive Changes
Spain soldiered their way to a 2-1 victory against hosts Germany in extra time last Friday. Dani Olmo made the most of his opportunity because of Pedri’s injury to score and assist the winning goal. Olmo, who will likely start against France, opened up the scoring in the 51st minute on a low first-time strike. Florian Wirtz equalized for Germany right before stoppage time began and the game went into extra time.
It looked like the match would head into penalties but Olmo played a great ball for fellow substitute Mikel Merino, who headed home in the 119th minute and secured a thrilling 2-1 victory. While Spain didn’t get the job done in 90 minutes, they been one of the best UEFA Euro picks thus far.
Spain won all three games in the group stage and also defeated Georgia 4-1 in the round of 16. Lamine Yamal assisted Olmo’s goal on Friday and the Barcelona teenager has been one of the standout players of the tournament. Nico Williams, Fabian Ruiz and Rodri have also been excellent for La Roja so far.
However, Luis de la Fuente will have to make two changes to his backline with Carvajal and Le Normand suspended. He has plenty of big game experience on his bench and can play Jesus Navas at right back and Nacho at center back.
Spain are currently on a seven game winning streak and eight game scoring streak. They’ve conceded only two goals in five matches at Euro 2024 and show +200 UEFA Euro final odds at the moment.

France Lacking Fluidity in Attacking Areas
Things simply haven’t clicked for France offensively during Euro 2024. They’ve taken 87 shots and no French player has scored in open play yet. Still, they managed to finish with a 1-2-0 record in the group stage, which was good enough for second in the Group D Euro standings. In the round of 16, France defeated Belgium 1-0 and they scored all of their penalties in the Quarter-Final shootout win over Portugal, following a scoreless draw.
Currently, Didier Deschamps’ France are the only team to keep four clean sheets at Euro 2024. While they haven’t scored from open play, they also haven’t conceded from open play either. The only goal France conceded was a penalty in the 1-1 group stage draw versus Poland.
Goalkeeper Mike Maignan and defenders William Saliba and Theo Hernandez deserve a lot of credit. Right back Jules Kounde was having an excellent tournament until he came up against Rafael Leao. The matchup against Spain’s Nico Williams will be similarly difficult in this Spain vs France Euro Semifinal.
In midfield, Adrien Rabiot will return from a suspension and likely replace Eduardo Camavinga. N’Golo Kante has been all over the pitch doing Kante things but Kylian Mbappe hasn’t been at his best. His broken nose and mask seem to be affecting him and his only goal in the tournament came on a penalty.
France’s lack of fluidity in attacking areas has been surprising to see but there’s still the possibility that they find another gear.
