UEFA Super Cup: Real Madrid vs Atalanta Odds Favor Los Blancos

Competitive Debut For Real Madrid’s Mbappe

Long-Term Injuries Hamper Atalanta

Real Madrid won a record-extending 15th Champions League title in June, with a 2-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund in the final. As a result, Real qualified for the UEFA Super Cup, where they’ll take on Europa League winners Atalanta on Wednesday in Warsaw. The Real Madrid vs Atalanta odds favor the Champions League titlists.

Atalanta handed Bayer Leverkusen their first, and only, loss of the 2023-24 season Ademola Lookman scored a hat trick in Atalanta’s 3-0 victory in the Europa League final. Now, La Dea will look to spoil Kylian Mbappe’s competitive debut.

Real Strengthen Star-Studded Squad

2023-24 Season:

  • La Liga: 29-8-1 (1st)
  • Champions League: 9-4-0, defeated Borussia Dortmund 2-0 in final
  • Copa del Rey: Round of 16
  • Supercopa de España: Champions

Injuries/Absences:

D David Alaba (Knee)

Champions League winners Real Madrid managed to win three trophies last season. Along with their 15th UCL triumph, Real Madrid defeated Barcelona 4-1 in the Supercopa de España final and won La Liga by 10 points over Barça. Jude Bellingham was a key player for Los Blancos in his first season in Spain, with 23 goals and 13 assists, in all competitions.

While Bellingham was the La Liga Player of the Season, Vinicius Junior earned that honor in the Champions League. Both of them are Ballon d’Or candidates and now they’ll be playing with another, Kylian Mbappe. Mbappe was Ligue 1’s top scorer each of the last six seasons and the attacker will make Real even more dynamic.

Along with Mbappe, Real also brought in Endrick, a young Brazilian striker. Longtime players Toni Kroos and Nacho Fernandez departed the club over the Summer. UCL hero Joselu also left for Qatar.

Before we deep more into the Real Madrid vs Atalanta betting odds, we need to take into consideration that in preseason, Real Madrid lost their first two games, to AC Milan and Barcelona, before defeating Chelsea 2-1. Notably, Los Blancos haven’t lost any of their last seven UEFA Super Cup games, at least not in 90 minutes. Carlo Ancelotti’s last appearance in this game was in 2022 when they defeated Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0.

David Alaba, who scored Real’s first goal in that match, is still recovering from an ACL injury. No other Real players are out.

Injury Issues for Atalanta

2023-24 Season:

  • Serie A: 21-6-11 (4th)
  • Europa League: 8-4-1, defeated Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 in final
  • Coppa Italia: Finalists

Injuries/Absences:

D Giorgio Scalvini (Knee), M Teun Koopmeiners (Personal), F Nicolo Zaniolo (Foot), ST Gianluca Scamacca (Knee)

This is Atalanta’s first-ever appearance in the UEFA Super Cup. Their 2023-24 Europa League triumph marked the first European trophy in club history and they spoiled Bayer Leverkusen’s invincible season in the process.

Ademola Lookman had one of the best-ever performances in a European final, with a superb hat trick in a 3-0 victory. Atalanta also finished fourth place in Serie A last season and reached the Coppa Italia final, where they fell to Juventus.

Manager Gian Piero Gasperini extended his contract after the season and Atalanta also made Charles De Ketelaere’s stay permanent. The former AC Milan player had a career revival in Bergamo, with 14 goals and 11 assists. In the wake of Gianluca Scamacca’s ACL injury, Atalanta acquired Mateo Retegui from Genoa.

Defender Giorgio Scalvini also tore his ACL, while loan signing Nicolo Zaniolo is dealing with a foot issue and midfielder Teun Koopmeiners has refused to train with the team as he awaits a move to Juventus.

Atalanta failed to win any of their three preseason games but we expect La Dea to make a splash in the Champions League this season.

Madrid vs Atalanta Match Analysis & Odds

Real Madrid managed to get results last season no matter who was injured. Eder Militao, Thibaut Courtois, and Alaba all missed time due to ACL injuries. But there was always someone waiting in the wings to step up. Although Atalanta are strong, they don’t have the same depth as Real and it’s unclear who will start up top for La Dea with Scamacca out.

Retegui and El Bilal Toure are in contention but Real will feel they can get a result here either way. The current Real Madrid vs Atalanta odds price Los Blancos as -175 moneyline favorites, while Atalanta are +425 underdogs and won’t be intimidated by the moment.

Atalanta +0.5 is priced at +125 odds and they only lost one of their 13 European matches last season. Still, stopping Mbappe, Bellingham, Vini and Rodrygo isn’t going to be easy.

Over 2.5 goals are at -160 but the last three editions of the Super Cup have finished with two goals. Plus, five of the last six have finished in 90-minute draws. Here, a draw shows +333 UEFA Super Cup odds and the match would go straight into penalties in that case.
