Who Will Book Their Spot in Euro 2024 Final?
Netherlands vs England Euro Semifinal: Three Lions Slight Favorites on Wednesday

Netherlands Pulled off Comeback Win in Quarters
It hasn’t at all been pretty but England live to see another day. The Three Lions have drawn their last four 90-minute games but England’s penalty shootout victory over Switzerland has set up Wednesday’s Netherlands vs England Euro Semifinal.
The Netherlands managed to pull off a comeback victory against Turkiye in the Quarter-Finals and they’ve been one of the highest scoring teams in the tournament. We’ll discuss the odds and team news ahead of Wednesday’s match.
Head-to-Head:
England have only won one of their last nine games against the Netherlands. Most recently, these teams met in the 2019 UEFA Nations League Semifinal, and the match finished 1-1 in 90 minutes. The Oranje grabbed two goals in extra time to defeat England, 3-1. The Netherlands are 2-1 in this fixture over the last 10 years.
These sides have played two previous UEFA Euro games against each other. England won 4-1 in 1996, and the Netherlands beat England 3-1 in 1988. Both of those games were in the group stage, which makes this their first knockout stage meeting at a major tournament.

Netherlands Shake off Third Place Finish
Ronald Koeman made a bold substitution at halftime of the Quarterfinal match against Turkiye. He took Steven Bergwijn out and put big striker Wout Weghorst in to provide more of a direct threat with the Oranje down 1-0. Weghorst didn’t score but he did cause problems for Turkiye’s defense. Memphis Depay assisted Stefan de Vrij and Cody Gakpo forced an own goal as the Netherlands pulled off a 2-1 comeback victory.
The Netherlands have scored five goals in two knockout stage games and have some dynamic attacking players. Gakpo is joint-leading scorer at the Euros, with three goals. Meanwhile, Donyell Malen scored twice after coming on as a sub in the 3-0 round of 16 win over Romania and is a candidate to start this Netherlands vs England Euro Semifinal.
Xavi Simons has also provided three assists, which is tied for the tournament lead. The Netherlands have scored nine goals in five games and only Germany and Spain have scored more. In the Group D UEFA Euro standings, the Netherlands finished in third place, with a 2-1 win over Poland, 0-0 draw against France and 3-2 loss to Austria.
They’ve been fortunate to get Romania and Turkiye in the knockout stage but this Netherlands team is full of talent. They have the most defensive depth in the tournament but Denzel Dumfries, Stefan de Vrij, Virgil van Dijk, and Nathan Ake have been starting.

Bukayo Saka Bails Out England
England fell behind for a second straight game, as Switzerland struck in the 75th minute of their Quarter-Final match on Saturday. Again, a moment of individual brilliance bailed England out, as Bukayo Saka beat Switzerland keeper Yann Sommer on a long range strike five minutes later. Saka was England’s best player in the Quarter-Finals and he converted his penalty in the 5-3 shootout victory.
The Three Lions have now played back-to-back extra time games and the minutes could catch up to them. Still, they did have more control of the game on Saturday than they’ve had since their opener against Serbia. The attacking sequences looked more fluid, aside from a corner that ended up all the way back with goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.
Ezri Konsa filled in for the suspended Marc Guehi but the Crystal Palace center back could return to the lineup on Wednesday. Kobbie Mainoo has done well since stepping into the midfield and should continue there.
England’s on-field product has been difficult to watch but they are in a third major tournament Semifinal under Gareth Southgate regardless. In the round of 16, it took a last-minute Jude Bellingham bicycle kick for England to equalize against Slovakia.
Harry Kane headed in the winner in extra time and England also drew 0-0 versus Slovenia and 1-1 against Denmark. England’s only 90-minute win was in their opener, against Serbia.

Netherlands vs England Analysis & Odds
Like the Netherlands, England’s knockout stage draw has also been favorable up until this point. When England face the likes of Gakpo, Depay, and Simons it’ll be, by far, the most dynamic group of attackers they’ve come up against. While the Oranje have lucked out by drawing Romania and Turkiye, they had three difficult group stage matches.
The Netherlands kept a clean sheet against France and they have the ability to frustrate England as well. Still, the Netherlands vs England Euro Semifinal odds list England as +160 90-minute favorites for this match. While it’s been difficult for England to grab wins, their star players have stepped up to ensure they don’t lose. Here, the Netherlands are +220 underdogs to knock out England in normal time.
Meanwhile, a draw is priced at +185 odds and it wouldn’t at all be surprising to see England go to a third straight extra-time match. While Netherlands pk is at +120 UEFA Euro odds, England pk sits at -140. Both over and under two goals come in at -110 odds. Four of the Netherlands five matches have finished with three or more goals, while none of England’s have ended with more than two.
