Can Lewis Hamilton Stack Up More Wins in 2024?

Lewis Hamilton hadn’t won a Grand Prix since 2021 before the weekend. He’d been featured on Netflix’s Drive to Survive as one of the best racers in F1 history, but he’s been the underdog for most of the year. Last weekend, the season hit halfway in the British Grand Prix. It’s ultimately the home location of F1.

Hamilton has earned over 100 F1 wins in his career. He’s also added nine Driver’s World Championships and has the most wins at Silverstone, where the British Grand Prix is located.

His career has lasted 17 years, and some believed his best was behind him. That’s typically what happens to veterans of the game.

He accomplished some amazing feats, like being the only black driver in F1 history. If you go around the streets and ask people to name an F1 driver, Hamilton’s name will probably be said the most.

However, he hadn’t won a race since December 2021. That’s nearly 1,000 days. The once-dominating legend became an underdog weekend after weekend during F1 races.

But he got the job done in his last British GP with Mercedes. At 40, Hamilton will be joining Ferrari next year.

Let’s break down all of the Lewis Hamilton stats and talk about his wild career in F1 Racing.

Where It All Started

Lewis Hamilton’s stats started to accumulate in 2007. He ranked second in Formula One Stats and started 17 times as a rookie in the sport. In 2007, Hamilton had 17 starts and won four times. He also added six poles and 14 top-five finishes.

In those 17 starts, there was only one time where Hamilton didn’t finish inside the top 10. Many then knew he would become a star in F1 Racing.

In 2008, it ranked first heading into the season. He finished with 98 points and added five wins in 18 starts.

Meanwhile, his best year was in 2019. In 2019, he made 21 starts and won over half of them. Hamilton contributed 11 wins and finished in the top ten in all 21 events, earning a season-best 412 points.

He had another great season in 2021 but struggled to find the same success with the hard F1 race schedule throughout the last few years.

Hamilton came into the season without a win since 2021. However, he finally got his first. He’s at 110 points and has 11 top-ten finishes in 12 starts. The Briton hasn’t been terrible in F1. But he just hasn’t found the poles this year. In most races, Hamilton has made the top ten and has added four top-five victories. But he wasn’t able to finish the job.

Can Hamilton Catch Up To Max Verstappen

It’s unlikely Hamilton will catch up to Verstappen. Verstappen has 255 points and already leads Lando Norris, who is in second place, by almost 80 points.

Behind Norris are Charles Leclerc and Carlos Saints. Behind those two are Oscar Piastri and Sergio Perez.

A Storied Career

Hamilton is not the best racer in F1 anymore. However, looking back, he’s won 30.23% of his races and 58.65% of his matches from the pole. In addition, he’s added a hat-trick 19 times, which is 5.52% of his races.

Beyond that, Hamilton has reached the podium 57.85% of the time. That means he’s been in the top three in 88.08% of his races throughout his 17-year career, which started in 2007.

It also doesn’t stop there. Hamilton has added 67 of the fastest laps and earned front rows in 51.16 races.

He used to be an easy best bet today. But that’s not the case anymore.

Should Hamilton Still Switch To Ferrari?

As stated, Hamilton has elected to depart Mercedes and link up with Ferrari next year. Maybe that will improve Lewis Hamilton’s stats.

There’s no looking back, and Hamilton is doing what he thinks is best for his career. He wasn’t getting the results he had hoped for, but even with this one race, he was likely not satisfied. The monkey is off his back, but he likely still feels like he can produce more wins.

Don’t expect Hamilton to dominate the F1 standings next season. But at least the notable name will still be part of F1 at 40 next year.
