F1 2021 Season Recap
What to expect for the upcoming season

The F1 2021 season was one for the ages and set the stage for a competitive 2022 slate. Max Verstappen won his first Drivers’ Championship, but Red Bull still came up short in the Constructors’ Championship. This title was claimed by Mercedes, continuing the teams’ dominance in this category.
F1 2021 will be remembered as one of the best seasons the sport has ever seen. It also changed a lot of people’s opinions of Grand Prix betting heading into the 2022 campaign. Let’s take a look back at the F1 2021 season.
Season Overview
The F1 2021 season did not disappoint, and there were surprises all over the place. The F1 betting odds favored Lewis Hamilton heading into the season, but he came up just short in the final race of the season.
Verstappen took home the top prize because of his dominance throughout the year with ten wins and 18 podiums. Hamilton was in second with eight wins and 17 podiums. After these two, the standings died off quickly. Only four other drivers won races, and none of them were able to win a second.
The 2021 Formula 1 season proved how top-heavy the sport is, which led the league to make changes to even the playing field. This has already proven to be a success in the 2022 season. The Constructors’ Championship was so lopsided as three teams scored under 50 points.
Haas, the last-place team, did not score a single point. Mercedes beat Red Bull by 28 points, but the Bulls held second by over 250 points. This showed how dominant Mercedes and Red Bull were during the season.
The entire season was crazy, but this really showed in the year’s final race.
Verstappen Wins in Abu Dhabi
Hamilton had a sizeable lead in the season’s final race in Abu Dhabi. The higher finisher in Abu Dhabi between Hamilton and Verstappen would take home the final prize. The trouble for Hamilton came with six laps to go when Nichola Latifi crashed, which brought out a safety car.
Red Bull quickly pitted Verstappen to give him fresh tires, which would give him the best chance possible to pass Hamilton. Mercedes chose to keep Hamilton on the track because there were lapped cars between him and Hamilton.
F1 race director Michael Masi chose to allow the lapped cars through putting Verstappen on Hamilton’s tail with one lap remaining. Hamilton had the same tires from his first pit stop, which meant trouble for the seven-time champ.
It was believed that Hamilton was robbed, but it’s hard to make a case against Verstappen. He was virtually better than the Mercedes driver all season.
Top Three
With Verstappen’s win, he ended the season in the first place. Verstappen was sensational all year, and he quickly became the favorite for 2022 in Vegas following his victory. Verstappen’s youth makes him the future of the sport.
Hamilton is finished the season in second place, which was a huge disappointment considering he had the last race won. Valtteri Bottas owned the third place. He transitioned to Alfa Romeo in 2022 but drove for Mercedes in 2021. Bottas had one win and 11 podiums during the season. Â
