More Max Verstappen dominance in Bahrain Grand Prix Betting Odds
The three-time defending world champion looks poised to continue his run to start 2024

Three months of the off-season and three days of testing are over. The 2024 Formula 1 season begins in earnest at the Bahrain International Circuit this weekend. The roster of 20 drivers returns on the same teams as last year – the first time in the sport’s history. And the same predictions return to start the year in the Bahrain Grand Prix Betting Odds.

Top picks for victory
Max Verstappen (-300)
New year, same favorite. Verstappen and Red Bull looked well clear of every other team-driver combination in testing at Bahrain. The RB20 builds upon the dominant RB19 with new design ideas that could keep them out in front for a while. The rest of the grid will be catching up to start the season. Save for an incredibly rare retirement – something Verstappen hasn’t done since April 2022 – he’s a lock for a win again.
Charles Leclerc (+900)
The only car that looks within reach of the Red Bull is Ferrari. The Scuderia changed their package for 2024 in a way that both drivers like. They look to have a less sensitive car to tire degradation and wind, improving their race pace.
Leclerc’s up to second-best in odds for victory for good reason. He retired with an engine issue in this race last year in the first of many retirements on the Formula 1 schedule. He’ll be keen to avoid repeating that and a good run at Verstappen in Bahrain is a great way to put that behind him.
Sergio Perez (+1100)
As Red Bull looks to continue its dominance in 2024, Perez will often make for a great value pick for victory. He faded down the stretch in 2023 to the tune of just one podium finish in the final eight F1 Grand Prix races. He finished second here last season and is a good bet for a podium, but a win is too tall of a task.
Carlos Sainz (+2000)
Sainz is one of many drivers grouped at +2000 for victory and is the best bet among them. He’s in the improved Ferrari and was the only non-Red Bull driver to win in 2023. He finished last season behind Leclerc in the Formula 1 standings but often made the right strategy calls at the right time. If the race is messy or impacted by safety car periods, Sainz could get it right en route to victory.
Drivers to fade in Bahrain
Lando Norris (+2000)
McLaren often looked like the second-best car down the last stretch of races in 2023. This isn’t an indictment of their 2024 car because it looks like a continuation of the improved 2023 package. It’s just not suited well to Bahrain. Instead, the McLaren and Norris should thrive more on high-speed circuits starting next week in Saudi Arabia.
Lewis Hamilton (+2000)
Mercedes overhauled their car compared to the start of 2023 and enjoyed their best testing week in years. Both drivers enjoyed its consistency and stability, especially at the rear while cornering. But the team admits it still needs time to fully understand the package and get the most out of it.
Considering how well Red Bull and Ferrari looked in comparison, Bahrain’s probably not going to be the place they do that. Give Hamilton and the team some time before backing them for a win.
Pole position favorites
Verstappen (-120)
Verstappen had 19 wins in 2023 but pole position in just 12 races. The Red Bull couldn’t string together a single-lap time like Ferrari in some races in 2023, but Bahrain was not one of them. Verstappen won from pole in 2023 and there’s no reason to believe the same won’t happen again after testing.
Leclerc (+250)
Leclerc finished second to Verstappen in pole positions in 2023 with five. They typically came on high-speed tracks at the Mexico City, Azerbaijan, and Belgian Grands Prix. He’ll likely be the F1 betting favorite outside of Verstappen for pole position this season. But Bahrain likely won’t be the venue for him to break through.
Sainz (+600)
Sainz also earned a couple of pole positions in 2023, but they came later in the year. He often can’t match Leclerc’s single-lap times, but there have been enough exceptions for him to have a chance this week. It’d be a surprise but the Ferrari’s shown improvement in the areas that could help Sainz out.
Bahrain Grand Prix Betting Odds: Predictions
A new season should bring new hope for close battles at the front during the race and qualifying. But that’s not the case this week. Verstappen will roll to pole position and a win to continue his dominance from 2023.
