Golf: Scheffler Tops PGA Tour Championship 2022 Odds

It Comes Down to East Lake

Scottie Scheffler is the FedEx Cup leader and he headlines the PGA Tour Championship 2022 odds.

He starts with an advantage courtesy of his excellent season, but he needs to hold off last year’s winner Patrick Cantlay, who won the BMW Championship last week.

The odds to win PGA Tour Championship are reflective of their starting positions and it should make for an exciting tournament.

FedEx Cup Leader Prominent

We expect Scheffler to be tough to beat even without the two-shot advantage over his nearest competitor.

PGA Tour Championship 2022 odds have him as the firm favorite at +240 and that’s hardly surprising given his head start.

Scheffler has been showing signs of improving and the major champion might end a remarkable PGA Tour season with one more victory. Given how he began last week, his T3 finish in the BMW Championship last week was a respectable performance, and it secured him the top spot.

Even if the 26-year-old hasn’t played at his peak over the past several weeks, he’s still competitive in the big tournaments and his golf betting odds are generous. He has a significant lead over many of the best golfers, including Rory McIlroy.

It’s a big advantage and a win would secure him the most money in a single season.

“I think I saw Scottie came in and did his interview yesterday and I’m sure he got asked about what was going on, and he’s had one of the best seasons of all time,” Justin Thomas told CBS Sports. “I mean, the most money that’s ever been earned and winning the FedEx Cup by a mile, and I’m sure there weren’t as many questions about that as there should have been.”

He should be tough to chase down, especially if he shoots low in the opening round.

McIlroy in Unfamiliar Role

McIlroy could be better chasing and we’re prepared to include him in our golf betting selections.

PGA Tour Championship 2022 odds have McIlroy at +1200 to chase down some talented players, but he’s capable of pulling off the upset.

Although the Northern Irishman hasn’t been at his brilliant best in recent weeks, we believe he is better chasing the pack as opposed to starting well and playing averagely on the weekend.

Starting six strokes behind Scheffler may allow him to play more freely and he has chased down big deficits before.

The 2019 FedEx Cup winner doesn’t need to make many changes to find his best game, and he can chase down Scheffler on the weekend.

McIlroy has been paying less than +1000 in most tournaments he has played. Therefore, his current PGA Tour Championship 2022 odds are well worth snapping up.

Cantlay Closing In

Patrick Cantlay hopes to become the first consecutive FedEx Cup winner, and after seeing his composure to win the BMW Championship, he should go close.

With his outstanding performance in the Tour Championship in 2021, Cantlay won the FedEx Cup, and having that experience is a great plus. The 30-year-old is always difficult to beat, and despite starting two strokes behind Scheffler, he won’t be concerned in the least if his short putts fall in.

He has threatened to win multiple times on the PGA Tour this year, so his confidence levels are sky high following his win in the BMW.

“I’ve had a bunch of close Sundays this year and not all of them have gone my way, as opposed to last year at the end of the year where I felt like all of the Sundays went my way,” Cantlay said.

Cantlay is on the second line of betting in PGA Tour Championship 2022 odds at +400 and that’s a price worth including.
