Golf: Tiger Woods Betting Odds Drift for Open Championship
The GOAT Doesn’t Have Many Supporters
There has been a sizable Tiger Woods betting odds drift for the Open Championship and it could project his chances of success.
Arguably the greatest golfer of all time, Woods has created headlines in recent years for his off-course antics, including a high-speed car crash. However, as his 2019 Masters win showcased, he can never be ruled out.
Open Championship standings suggest Woods doesn’t have a chance to win at St. Andrews and we look at his actual chances to win the Claret Jug.
Woods with the Blows
Woods was being respected in the Open Golf odds markets when they opened, but there is a distinct lack of support now.
His original odds of +6000 have ballooned to +8500, which is a more respectable price for bettors to enjoy. Bookmakers realize it’s unlikely that Woods has a legitimate chance of turning back time and winning the Open Championship.
Even if he plays out of his skin, he could barely walk the last time he played a full tournament, which resulted in Woods pulling out.
Tiger Woods betting odds could continue to drift but the two-time St. Andrews winner knows the course better than most.
Rory McIlroy, who is the current +1000 favorite to win the Claret Jug, believes it’s great to see a healthy Woods on the course.
“He’s going for a third Claret Jug at St Andrews and he keeps reminding me of that,” McIlroy told BBC.com. “But a healthy Tiger Woods means healthy golf. He brings more interest.
“He’s a legend not just in golf but in all of sport and even though we’re not going to see him as much as we used to it’s great to have him around.”
Bigger upsets have happened in recent history, including Woods’ win at Augusta in 2019. Phil Mickelson won the PGA Championship at a +12500 quote, so long odds shouldn’t be overlooked.
How is Woods Feeling?
Everyone wants to know how Woods is feeling ahead of the Open Championship.
Despite his body looking like a shell of its former self, Woods is feeling good and hopes to be in contention on Sunday.
“I’m feeling good,” Woods said. “Game day is Thursday so I just have to pace myself until then and get after it and hopefully we can put ourselves in contention on the back nine come Sunday.”
Tiger Woods betting odds could drift to +10000 come Thursday, so bettors get a value price. His experience can’t be overlooked and we wouldn’t put it past Woods to pull off some magic and be in contention.
Woods is -190 to make the cut, so there has been solid betting support to play on the weekend. It will still take a massive effort to play all four rounds, not only on his body but he needs to beat a quality field in the year’s final major.
There are a lot of risks involved with betting on Woods, so it could be best to have a sneaky wager on his tournament winner odds because of the odds available. The -190 to make the cut is too risky.
