Johnson’s Eyes On LIV Golf Pumpkin Ridge Title
The Major Winner, Headlines Betting Markets
Dustin Johnson is the favorite for the LIV Golf Pumpkin Ridge tournament, which tees off on Thursday.
The field looks more like a PGA Tour field than the John Deere Classic, which could threaten the fabric of the Tour; however, regardless of opinion, it’s an excellent betting field for the second LIV Golf tournament.
DJ to Justify Favoritism
Johnson is still a hugely popular player despite turning his back on the PGA Tour. That’s reflected with golf betting odds, which have him at +700 to win in Portland.
The laidback American had the best performance at the U.S. Open among the LIV Tour players, finishing T24 behind first-time major winner Matthew Fitzpatrick. He was never in contention to win, but it was a strong enough showing.
He was favored to win the opening event in London, won by Charl Schwartzel of South Africa; however, despite the defeat, it was a solid effort and playing in America only strengthens his chances.
I’m very thankful for the PGA Tour and everything it’s done for me,” Johnson said. “I’ve done pretty well out there for the last 15 years. But this is something that was best for me and my family. It’s something exciting and something new.”
The 15-year PGA Tour veteran’s decision to swap tours comes as no surprise given his struggles in regaining his best form; however, he could carve out another career on the LIV Tour and the +700 odds are justified.
LIV Golf Pumpkin Ridge odds could see more action for the former world number one, so his current odds could firm to around +600.
Koepka Joins the Ranks
Big news broke last week of Brooks Koepka switching to the LIV Golf Tour and he makes his first appearance at Pumpkin Ridge.
The often controversial star couldn’t keep away from Bryson DeChambeau, but in all seriousness, he’s a serious winning hope.
Koepka would be expected to make a statement in his debut given his four major wins. The American has experienced injury problems in recent years so turning down $150 million wouldn’t have been a wise decision.
Despite his injury troubles, he’s a strong winning chance in Portland and his odds to win LIV Golf currently stand at +1000. It’s a generous quote for someone of his ability and we wouldn’t back against him, especially over the 54-hole distance.
Beware of Chacarra
Eugenio Chacarra might not be a household name but the former Oklahoma State Cowboy could make a splash on the LIV Tour.
He bypassed the option to stay at college for a big payday from the Saudi’s and we can’t blame the kid. His future is now set, meanwhile, other budding amateurs are hoping just to make the PGA Tour one day.
“My position is that of a player who is not a member of the PGA Tour or the DP World Tour, and I have not earned money while I have been an amateur, so I can play in this league without problems,” Chacarra said.
We like that he’s not making excuses and he could cause an upset at the LIV Golf Pumpkin Ridge. He was the second-ranked amateur in the world and the Spaniard has plenty of game.
He has enough game to be near the top of the leaderboard and he doesn’t have much pressure to perform, which is only a positive.
Bettors get +6600 for the youngster and he warrants attention at those odds.
