Local Hopes Picked with 2023 RBC Canadian Open Odds

The Canadians Could Prevail

2023 RBC Canadian Open odds have been released and it’s Rory McIlroy leading the way, but he needs to see off a strong Canadian charge.

Looking to cause an upset are the likes of Corey Conners, Adam Hadwin, and Nick Taylor, who are paying value golf odds.

McIlroy is shooting for his third consecutive win in the event, so he’s the worthy favorite for the next of the golf tournaments on the schedule.

McIlroy Loves Canada

Winning hasn’t come easy for McIlroy over the last few years, but he loves playing the RBC Canadian Open.

He won in 2019 by a whopping seven strokes over Shane Lowry and Webb Simpson, before the tournament was cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to Covid.

However, he returned in 2022 and won by two strokes over Tony Finau, so we’re not surprised by the +400 with 2023 RBC Canadian Open odds.

McIlroy is the best player in the field and it’s not close. However, he was disappointing on Sunday at the Memorial in Ohio, and he needs to work on his iron shots, otherwise, he won’t be winning much.

He also needs to work on his putting, but being back in Canada could be enough to see McIlroy return to winning form.

“It’s very hard to try to play your best golf when you’re really thinking about your golf swing,” McIlroy said. “That offseason time would be nice to work on your mechanics and fundamentals … so you can roll going into the bulk of the season. I didn’t feel like I had the necessary time to do that.”

+400 is short, but this is the ideal chance for McIlroy to win.

Conners Lead Locals

Conners isn’t the easiest golfer to follow, but the Canadian is already a winner in 2023 at the Valero Texas Open.

The 31-year-old from Ontario is a two-time winner on the PGA Tour, both coming at the Texas Open, and it’s his performances at the Masters that stand out.

Despite having just a moderate record in the majors, Conners scored three consecutive top 10 finishes at the Masters from 2020-2022.

He missed the cut this year, but followed it up with a T12 at the PGA Championship, so he has the class to beat quality fields.

Besides McIlroy, he is good enough to beat most of the players in the field, and the 2023 RBC Canadian Open odds of +1600 are well worth including.

We expect the local golfers to perform well this week, and Conners is the best of them.

Fleetwood Desperate for Success

We used to say it was a matter of time before Tommy Fleetwood won on the PGA Tour, but we’re running out of patience.

There is no doubting his ability, but he should have won by now. However, we’re prepared to give him one more chance in what should be favorable conditions.

Playing in Canada should suit his game, and although he missed the cut last week at the Memorial, he looked good when finished T18 at the PGA Championship.

The 32-year-old is a six-time winner on the European Tour, so he has won big tournaments in the past, but playing in North America hasn’t yielded results.

With five top 10 finishes in the majors, Fleetwood should be ready to win his first PGA Tour tournament, and it could come in Canada.

There has been steady betting support for Fleetwood at +1800, so bettors are sticking with him, and he should be near the top of the leaderboard with a top 10 or top 20 finish.
