Hovland Has a Point to Prove
Viktor Hovland is ranked 11th in the world, which is a good ranking considering his recent form.
The talented golfer has three PGA Tour victories on his record, but all three came during a week when a bigger competition was taking place. He has a victory in the Puerto Rico Open and two at the Mayakoba Classic, so he has to take home a higher-level PGA Tour trophy.
There are questions about how well his victories compare, but despite lacking confidence recently, he is being well-respected with AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am odds at +1100, so he’s worth backing.
It’s now up to Hovland to go out and perform his business in Pebble Beach to show that he can win the more appealing tournaments. It’s not the hardest field he has ever faced, so he could win his fourth tournament on the PGA Tour.
American Eyes Debut Win
Maverick McNealy has been backed and beaten a few times, but the American is capable of winning one of the 2023 major golf events.
The 27-year-old has a Stanford degree, so he has a foundation to build on, and he should be motivated to win on the PGA Tour, so his AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am odds are worth entertaining. Although he didn’t play well on Sunday, his T31 finish at the Farmers Insurance Open was a respectable follow-up to his performance at the Sony Open in Hawaii earlier this year.
His T7 placing at the Sony Open impressed us. He wasn’t up against a particularly difficult field, but similar to the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, he could benefit from the absence of the more well-known players.
He’s also doing things off the course to help his with his mental game.
Bettors get +1800 odds for McNealy, which is double the price of Fitzpatrick and Spieth. He’s worth backing at the value price.
Upset in the Making?
An Byeong-Hun is a legitimate winning chance and his AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am odds are worth including as a saver bet. The South Korean was the youngest person to ever win the U.S. Amateur and he has one European Tour victory to his name.
He has lost twice in playoffs on the PGA Tour, but he has yet to claim a victory, so Pebble Beach could be his time to break through. He put out a strong effort in the 2018 Memorial, where he lost to Bryson DeChambeau, and even if his form has since dipped, he still possesses enough talent to beat this field.
The +12500 is astronomically high and he’s worth a top 10 and top 20 wager.
