Making Money with McIlroy: Major Drought to End in Scotland

2024 The Open Outright Odds

It has been 10 years since Rory McIlroy won a major tournament, and we’re picking him to end the drought this week.

2024 The Open outright odds have him on the second line of betting behind Scottie Scheffler, and he could get the better of the American.

The Open leaderboard will likely be packed with the best players, including Ludvig Aberg, Xander Schauffele, and Scottish Open winner Robert MacIntyre.

Frustration to End for McIlroy

It has been a frustrating year for McIlroy, and some could say a frustrating 10 years.

The 35-year-old hasn’t won a major since taking out the 2014 Open Championship, and this is the perfect setting for the Northern Irishman.

After finishing T4 at the Scottish Open last week, McIlroy is playing well, and he’s good enough to justify his +750 price with 2024 The Open outright odds.

It followed a heartbreaking loss to Bryson DeChambeau in the U.S. Open, so bouncing back was good to see.

However, as usual, it was his putting that let him down in Scotland. He will need to putt better at Royal Troon to lift the trophy.

“I had a lot of chances that I wasn’t able to convert, and that was sort of the story of the week,” McIlroy said afterward. “Felt like the ball-striking was there pretty much every day. There were a few scrappy bits here and there, but overall, it was a good week to see where my game is heading into next week, especially after the back of three weeks off.

“Pleased with the week with one eye on trying to defend here, but obviously with an eye on trying to get prepared for Troon as well.”

McIlroy is easily good enough to win, and we think he’s better equipped to win than Scheffler.

A-Game Expected for Aberg

Ludvig Aberg didn’t have his best game in the final round at the Scottish Open, giving up a two-shot lead.

However, the Swedish star played well for the first three days, and it should still give him confidence before The Open.

The 24-year-old, who was playing college golf not long ago, has risen to the top, and he showed that when finishing second at the Masters.

  • He’s including in our golf picks this week at +1400. That’s a fair price for the one-time PGA Tour winner, and it’s only a matter of time before he breaks through for a major victory.

He is the best golfer under the age of 25, and he has experience playing on the DP World Tour, so conditions in Europe won’t worry him.

2024 The Open outright odds have him on the third line of betting, which shows how respected he is at the sportsbook.

We’re Betting on Bryson

It’s hard to bet against Bryson DeChambeau, and his top golf odds are worth snapping up for The Open Championship.

The hard-hitting American didn’t win the recent LIV Tour event, but he comes off a U.S. Open victory and could go back-to-back.

He is one of the best golfers in the world, and he has changed the current landscape of modern golf, which is great to see.

  • There will always be solid betting support for DeChambeau, who is a +1500 chance to win The Open Championship.

Those odds don’t surprise us, but he could have easily moved to the second line of betting.

Conditions at Royal Troon won’t worry DeChambeau, who has more length than any other player, and his short game has improved steadily.

Focused on winning majors, and following the disappointment of not making the USA Olympic team, he’s ready for another victory.

Make the Max with Min Woo Lee

  • Min Woo Lee offers solid value at outsider odds of +5000, and he has played well enough to win.

The Australian, who plays on the PGA Tour but spent most of his career in Europe, is a three-time European Tour winner.

He won the 2020 Victoria Open before winning the 2021 Scottish Open, which is always a great form indicator for The Open Championship.

He won two of his three events in Australia, but he’s familiar with conditions in Europe, and the odds are too good to pass up.

Min also performs well in top Australian markets, and we expect a good result from the popular player this week.

  • Getting +5000 for a player of his quality is tough to overlook.
