The Match Golf Odds Can’t Split Them

Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy team up to face Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas, and The Match golf odds predict a close contest.

Saturday’s 12-hole exhibition sees four of the best golf players in the world take to the links and there will be plenty of banter between friends.

It’s also a hotly-contested betting affair with the teams paying -120. The short format, played under lights, should have the world watching.

Tiger and Rory Make Dream Team

Does it get much better than seeing Woods and McIlroy team up? They are two of the most dominant golfers in the last 20 years, so it’s exciting even for casual golf fans.

The chemistry between Woods and McIlroy over the past several years has been wonderful to watch, and although being competitive on the golf course, that hasn’t put a strain on their friendship.

The Match golf odds have Woods/McIlroy at -120, equal favorites with Spieth and Thomas. It’s a fair line given the form of McIlroy, but Woods is a risk.
However, they are playing 12 holes for a reason, so Woods should be able to get around pain free.

Woods withdrew from the Hero World Challenge because he couldn’t walk, but he indicated he would be fine over 12 holes and that he has been hitting the ball well at home.

Woods has decided against having surgery for plantar fasciitis.

“You don’t want to go down the surgical route,” Woods told the Golf Channel. “Injections, surgical, or just stretch and relax, and I chose to stretch and relax.

“Get off your feet, which I have done and continue to do. Also sleep at night with a boot on; try to stretch it out.”

Spieth/Thomas a Formidable Unit

Woods and McIlroy will be up against it on Saturday because Spieth and Thomas are a strong team, and they are also best friends.

Thomas is currently playing well and is one of the more reliable golfers on the tour after a strong showing in the Hero World Challenge. He might not be winning as often as he used to, but his game is in a good place.

Spieth hasn’t been playing as well, but the 12-hole format could play into his hands, as could the more relaxed nature of The Match.

Spieth and Thomas are among the best teammates during the Ryder Cup and the President’s Cup, which helps.

In the 2022 President’s Cup, Spieth displayed his class and he is a sucker for this brand of golf. He loves the pairs format after going 5-0 at the President’s Cup and that makes them a dangerous team against Woods and McIlroy, who can’t pair up in those events.
