Rory McIlroy eyes his third Canadian Open title in Hamilton this week, and he’s the only player the market wants. The 2024 RBC Canadian Open odds have McIlroy at +360 to win his third tournament in four weeks, so he’s the raging hot favorite.
Tommy Fleetwood and Sahith Theegala are next best with golf betting markets, and bettors get value odds outside of McIlroy.
Backing the Form Player
It’s tough to overlook McIlroy, who won the 2019 Canadian Open in Hamilton by seven shots. He has always played well in Canada, including a win in this event in 2022.
McIlroy comes off a T9 performance at the 2023 edition, and although he didn’t win on that occasion, he wasn’t playing as well as he is now. The Northern Irishman won the Zurich Classic with Shane Lowry three weeks ago before backing up and winning the Wells Fargo Championship. He loves winning the same tournaments throughout his career, which bodes well with his 2024 RBC Canadian Open odds.
Taking +360 for a golfer isn’t easy, especially one going through a divorce. However, golf betting trends paint a good picture, and he should justify his odds and lead the RBC Canadian Open leaderboard at some point.
Theegala Trending Towards Win
Sahith Theegala is one of the more promising players on the PGA Tour, and he showed his ability at the PGA Championship. He was right in contention for the win on Sunday, and although he played poorly in the final round, the T12 finish is good enough to see his confidence levels rise.
The 26-year-old won the 2022 QBE Shootout with Tom Hoge before taking out the 2023 Fortinet Championship. That was his first solo win, and as his recent major performances suggest, he doesn’t need to improve much to win again. His PGA scores are right there with the best players in the world, and his experience at Valhalla will only give him more confidence.
Bettors get +1800 odds with 2024 RBC Canadian Open odds, and that’s a great saver bet.
Lowry Seeking Teammate Upset
Shane Lowry won the Zurich Classic with McIlroy a few weeks ago, but he’s overdue some solo success. The Irishman hasn’t won a solo PGA Tour event since the 2019 Open Championship, and that didn’t come on American soil. His most recent win in the US came in 2015, so it has been a long time between drinks for the 37-year-old, who also won the 2022 BMW Championship when beating McIlroy and Jon Rahm by one shot.
Lowry shot a 62 at Valhalla, which was one shot short of the new majors low-scoring record.
“Probably the most disappointed anyone can ever be shooting 62,” Lowry said. “I knew what was at stake. Just didn’t hit the ball hard enough. Had it on a good read and just broke away from the hole.”
Despite his heartbreak from that scintillating round, it shows he’s good enough to shoot low numbers. That should give bettors confidence when taking the +2200 odds to beat Ryder Cup teammate McIlroy.
Local Victory for Conners
Corey Conners is often the best of the Canadian players, and he has played solidly enough this season. He finished T38 at The Masters before posting a T26 finish at the PGA Championship, which is a good enough form to consider. The two-time PGA Tour winner, both coming at the Valero Texas Open, should want to play well in front of his Canadian fans.
He might get some company with the likes of Adam Hadwin and Taylor Pendrith, but Conners is the better player.
2024 RBC Canadian Open odds have Conners at +2000, and he has been one of the best-backed golfers in the field.
We’re happy to include him in our golf picks, and his odds could continue to firm throughout the week.
