Confidence Game Tops Kentucky Derby Longshots 2023
Back These Runners at Big Odds

We love finding a roughie to win the Kentucky Derby, and it’s Confidence Game that tops Kentucky Derby Longshots 2023.
There is a lot of value with the Derby horses odds, and although most of the attention is on favorite Forte, there is value to be snapped up.
Confidence Game
The 3-year-old son of Candy Ride has shown ability throughout his career, but we liked his performance to win the Rebel Stakes last start.
The Rebel Stakes is only a Grade III contest, but it should give him plenty of confidence heading into the Kentucky Derby.
He has been prepared with seven starts, which we believe is an asset. Our horse racing analysis has Confidence Game in the mix against the favorites, despite being a +2500 chance with bookmakers.
“He sort of lost his mind in the paddock, so I was worried until he got on the track,” said trainer Keith Desormeaux. “James [Graham] got him to settle down out there. He’s really come into his own. He started off pretty immature, but as the races went on, he has improved things mentally, and physically.”
He’s a quality Kentucky Derby longshots 2023 hope, so have him on your ticket. His odds could firm as the Kentucky Derby field takes shape, so get in now.
Hit Show
We think there will be market moves for Hit Show, which is on the same line of betting as Confidence Game at +2500.
The Brad Cox-trained runner comes through different races to Confidence Game, following a second placing in the Wood Memorial.
It hasn’t been the best form guide over the years, but we think the Wood Memorial is becoming a better Kentucky Derby form guide.
The son of Candy Ride owns three wins from five starts, so he knows how to get the job done, and that’s what we like in this race. He also has a win at Churchill Downs, so he has past track experience.
He finished fourth behind Confidence Game at his second career start, but a lot of water has gone under the bridge since.
As far as Kentucky Derby longshots 2023 go, Hit Show is well worth backing. He has more scope than many in the field, and we believe he’ll go from strength to strength.
Rocket Can
There is nothing wrong with the form of Rocket Can, who has excellent form lines through the big races.
He won at Churchill Downs against the moderate company before running second behind Confidence Game. However, it has been his form since which sparked our interest.
He won the Holy Bull at Gulfstream Park before running second behind Forte in the Fountain of Youth. That’s the form behind the +250 Kentucky Derby favorite, and although beaten, it was a good effort in defeat.
“Forte is a good horse, but my horse is not 100% seasoned. He’s got six races under him, but I still think he’s not mature yet. He’s a very late-developing horse. I think with more racing he will get even better,” jockey Junior Alvarado said.
His most recent run came when fourth in the Arkansas Derby behind Angel of Empire, who is on the third line of betting.
Therefore, we’re including him in our Kentucky Derby longshots 2023 selections at +2500.
