Horse Racing: Awesome Again Tops Santa Anita Race Track Betting

The Grade I Headlines the Saturday Card

The Awesome Again Stakes headlines Santa Anita race track betting markets this week, which includes a field of eight thoroughbreds.

Featuring in the field are the likes of Royal Ship, Country Grammar, and Slow Down Andy.

The Santa Anita Stakes races schedule has the Awesome Again Stakes as top billing and it should be a top race. Let’s take a look at the early voting horse odds.

Country Grammer the Star Runner

The 5-year-old won the Dubai World Cup in Meydan before finishing second in the San Diego Handicap and Pacific Classic.

That’s excellent form coming into the Awesome Again Stakes and Santa Anita race track betting odds have him well-backed to win.

The son Tonalist could give trainer Bob Baffert his eighth Awesome Again Stakes win. However, despite running second in the Pacific Classic, he was an incredible 20 lengths behind Flightline.

Jockey Frankie Dettori was glowing after the win in Dubai.

“He’s a big horse and did exactly what I wanted him to do until the half-mile pole when I thought Life Is Good was getting away from me,” said Dettori. “I started trying something different to get him on the right leg, give him some fresh air and fill his lungs. Passing the furlong marker I thought ‘I’ve won this’. The last furlong was amazing – such a great feeling.”

Beating Life is Good should be a good form guide and Awesome Again odds should have him at a value price.

Royal Ship Sets Sail

There is plenty of hype around Royal Ship, who was also no match for Flightline in the Pacific Classic, but he wasn’t far behind Country Grammer.

Handicap two starts back when beating Country Grammer, who he’s good enough to beat the favorite and we wouldn’t leave him out of Awesome Again Stakes selections

The son of Midshipman won the San Diego Handicap two starts back when beating Country Grammer, who he’s good enough to beat the favorite and we wouldn’t leave him out of Awesome Again Stakes selections.

Jockey Mike Smith let him roll along nicely in the San Diego, which could be the tactics again on Saturday.

“I wasn’t going to take anything away from him today,” Smith said. “If he wanted to go, he could go. He was rolling on the backside and just kept going.”

Trainer Richard Mandella said his runner paid off their trust in him.

“He’s always been a good horse, he just kinda got a little bit stiff and sore, so we gave him a break and he’s paid us back,” said Mandella.

Derby Winner Adds Value

Slow Down Andy won the Del Mar Derby, and although that’s not top-level form, it could be good enough.

The 3-year-old colt is the fresh-faced runner of the field and he has form behind some smart types, including Epicenter and High Connection.

The son of Nyquist meets older horses for the first time, but there’s always room for an upset and we think Santa Anita race track betting should have value odds available.

It could pay to watch for any late horse racing betting moves.
