Horse Racing: Really Good Kentucky Downs Betting Tips
It’s Closing Day in Kentucky
There is plenty going on in the horse racing world and we have Kentucky Downs betting tips for Wednesday’s final-day card.
Really Good is all the rage in the $500,000 Juvenile Mile Stakes and there are also the Pepsi Gun Runner Stakes and One Dreamer Stakes to enjoy.
Really Good Could Be
The 2-year-old son of Hard Spun has been best-backed for the Juvenile Mile Stakes and he tops our Kentucky Downs betting tips.
He won impressively on debut at Saratoga and the Michael Maker-trained colt could be suited by the Kentucky Downs racetrack.
He comes off solid work where he ran 1:01.20 for five furlongs and we liked his action, so we see no reason to not include him in selections. However, there are many winning threats in the $500,000 feature.
Mayfield Strong turned around a poor debut showing by scoring at Ellis Park last start. The Ken McPeek-trained colt ran sixth on debut at Churchill Downs, but it was good to see him turn it around.
There has been solid betting at 4-1 for the second favorite and we wouldn’t leave him out of our Kentucky Downs betting tips. Horses that should figure in the finish also include Castleknock and Reckoning Force.
Stitched Headlines Gun Runner
It’s an even betting field in the Gun Runner Stakes but Stitched could take some beating.
The latest horse racing news is that the son of Mizzen Mist will line up following a fifth in the Franklin Simpson Stakes at Keeneland, which should be a good form guide.
“We thought we’d take a shot at this race over at Kentucky Downs,” trainer Greg Foley said. “He’s done everything right, other than the first time we ran him at the Fair Grounds. Didn’t run that day, I should say. He got beat 30-some lengths. We were scratching our heads. We’d been bragging about him with the owners. We didn’t know what to say other than throw it out and try it again.”
This race should be easier than the grade II contest and his form prior included back-to-back wins at Churchill Downs and Indiana Downs.
There has also been betting support for Castle Leoch, who looks to bounce back after a poor showing in the Oceanside Stakes at Del Mar.
The Wesley Ward-trained colt looked better winning an allowance race at Belmont, and although he needs to improve on his last run, he’s worth including in Kentucky Downs betting tips.
Godolphin Races Alms
Bettors should always take notice when Godolphin lines up a runner at Kentucky Downs and Alms fits the bill in the One Dreamer Stakes.
The 5-year-old daughter of City Zip has been around the mark of late without winning, but that could all change on Wednesday.
She won her first four starts but has not won since 2020 comes with added pressure. She has finished behind the likes of Sharing, Regal Glory, and Stolen Holiday in tough races since, so we’re prepared to forgive her.
Her most recent effort was a second placing in the Old Nelson Stakes at Colonial Downs. She has yet to race at Kentucky Downs, but the different environment could help.
Bookmakers have her at 7-2 and we expect money to come for her on race day.
