Nest Outdeuls Filly in Horse Racing Odds Recap

Nest the Best?

Nest could be the best filly in the US after winning the Coaching Club American Oaks, but she’ll be tested in this field.

The 3-year-old filly for Todd Pletcher was too good for Secret Oath last start, which is why she’s the odds-on favorite to win the Alabama Stakes.

Before facing the boys and placing second in the Belmont Stakes against Mo Donegal, Nest finished second in the Kentucky Oaks behind Secret Oath, so they’re 1-1.

Pletcher says she has trained well during the week and is ready to take them on.

“Went a little bit easy the first part, so I had them pick it up at the finish and galloped out really, really well,” Pletcher told DRF.com.

“Seems to be holding her form.”

He suggested having a try at the Travers, which is a notoriously tough race.

“We did talk about it, but we just felt as long as she was ready to run back in Alabama, a mile and a quarter is perfect for her,” Pletcher said. “Just felt it was too good of a spot to pass up.”

Secret Oath to Turn Tables

Bettors should have confidence that Secret Oath can defeat Nest.

Despite losing in the American Oaks, the filly trained by D. Wayne Lukas hasn’t done anything wrong in her career and doesn’t merit being a +300 second favorite. We expected her odds to be shorter, so it’s a value price.

After winning the Kentucky Oaks, the daughter of Arrogate placed fourth behind racehorse Early Voting in the Preakness. Since she may have been a little underdone in her previous run, bettors should anticipate a fitter filly.

“She’s really had a good month since that debacle in the [CCA Oaks],” Lukas said. “In fact, I feel like she’s better now than any time I’ve had her. She’s really flourished here at Saratoga. Luis has worked her three times since that race so he’s getting more familiar every day with her, too. So, that should help us as much as anything. We’re anxious to run her.”

Gerrymander Takes Shot

The latest horse racing news is that Gerrymander is an excellent chance at upsetting the favorites for the Alabama Stakes.

Although the form lines of the daughter of Into Mischief differ from those of the favorites, she was strong to the line at Belmont, and the +400 odds indicate that she will be in the mix.

With the exception of finishing sixth behind Matareya in the Eight Belles Stakes, her form has generally been strong throughout her career.

Her comeback performance was excellent, so keeping an eye out for any more Alabama Stakes betting trends on race day would be worthwhile.
