Girona vs Sevilla Head-to-Head

Girona won their last three games against Sevilla. Last season’s La Liga results finished 2-1 and 2-0 in favor of Girona. Earlier in the 2023-24 campaign, Yangel Herrera and Aleix Garcia scored as Girona picked up a 2-1 win in Seville. The Girona vs Sevilla matchup odds priced visitors Girona as +305 underdogs. Sevilla have only one win at the Estadi Montilivi in three previous La Liga visits.

Girona Disappoint vs Almeria

Last weekend, Girona failed to win in La Liga for just the fifth time this season. They struggled at last-placed Almeria and could only come away with a scoreless draw. Almeria even outplayed and outshot Girona, who looked flat. The Catalan club bounced back on Wednesday vs. Rayo Vallecano.  Portu earned a rare start in the Copa del Rey round of 16 game. The attacking midfielder repaid Michel’s faith in him by providing two assists and earning a penalty in a 3-1 victory.

Cristhian Stuani scored twice in the victory, and Girona scored all their goals in the first half. Their meteoric rise has been quite a sight to see, and even if Girona miss out on the title and just seal their first-ever Champions League berth, it’d be a massive achievement. Girona are the real deal, and last weekend’s match at Almeria was likely a blip on the radar rather than a sign of things to come. Still, Michel must deal with two of his key players out for Sunday’s match. Aleix Garcia and David Lopez are both suspended for the match vs. Sevilla.

Still, a bunch of other key contributors are available. Ukrainian striker Artem Dovbyk ranks fourth in the La Liga stats with 11 goals and first in the league with 16 goal contributions. Stuani has been excellent in limited minutes, and Savio and Viktor Tsyhankov have provided bursts of energy and creativity. Fullbacks Miguel Gutierrez and Yan Couto have played out of this world, and Daley Blind has provided much-needed leadership in the center of defense.

Sevilla in Disarray

Sevilla are already on their third coach of the season. Jose Luis Mendilibar, who guided Sevilla to the Europa League title last season, lasted just two months into the 2023-24 campaign. Diego Alonso replaced Mendilibar, and the team didn’t win a single La Liga match during his tenure. In December, Quique Sanchez Flores took over but the their form has improved only marginally. One of the most disappointing picks for soccer betting this season.

Sanchez Flores won his first match in charge but Sevilla are on a three game losing streak in La Liga. Last Friday, Alaves got their first away win of the season at Sevilla as the Basque side got a 3-2 result. However, Sevilla did manage to defeat Getafe 3-1 in a Copa del Rey round of 16 match on Tuesday. Isaac Romero scored his first two goals for Sevilla vs. Getafe. The 23-year-old is one to watch for and was recently promoted from Sevilla’s B-team.

With an embarrassing 3-7-10 record, Sevilla are in 17th place, just one point ahead of the relegation zone. With players like Sergio Ramos, Youssef En-Nesyri, Lucas Ocampos, Ivan Rakitic, and Jesus Navas, it’s somewhat shocking how much the 2022-23 Europa League winners have underperformed. Currently, Boubakary Soumare is suspended for Sevilla, while En-Nesyri is away with Morocco. Nemanja Gudelj, Dodi Lukebakio and Orland Nyland are also injured.

Girona vs Sevilla Match Analysis & Odds

The Girona vs Sevilla matchup odds imply Girona have a better chance than not to pick up all three points here. Girona enter as -135 favorites and those odds correspond to an implied 57.4 percent chance of victory. Real Madrid have a game in hand on Girona and are just one point behind the Catalan side. So, Girona need all of the points they can get and Girona -0.5, -1 comes in at -110 odds.

Sevilla have won just three of their 20 La Liga games this season and are +360 underdogs for this one. Bettors can take Sevilla +0.5, +1 at -110 as just two of Sevilla’s La Liga losses this season have been by more than a one goal margin. Here, Girona will look to extend their winning streak vs. Sevilla to five games. Even with Garcia and Lopez suspended, Girona have enough to get over the line.

This fixture has never finished in a draw in seven previous meetings. Still, one shows +300 odds on Sunday. With 46 goals through 20 games, Girona is La Liga’s highest-scoring team, and they’ve already put four goals on teams like Atletico Madrid and Barcelona this season. With that in mind, over 2.5, 3 goals are priced at -115 odds.
