La Liga Matchday 23 Odds: Barcelona Continue Winning Ways

Derbi Madrileño Weekend

Barcelona Continue Winning Ways

With a 2-0 win over Cadiz on Sunday, Barcelona made it seven straight wins in La Liga. Barça still hold an eight-point lead over Real Madrid and will look to extend it on Matchday 23. With Real taking on rivals Atletico Madrid in the Derbi Madrileño, it’d be a big help for Barcelona if Real Madrid drop points. Atletico Madrid have also been in excellent recent form. After an incredible comeback in the Champions League vs. Liverpool on Tuesday, Real should be up for Saturday’s derby as well. Let’s take a closer look at the Madrid Derby and other La Liga Matchday 23 odds.

Match of the Week

RMA Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid ATM

Date & Time:

Most recently, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid met in the quarterfinals of the Copa del Rey. Real won that match 3-1 back in January and now sit at +200 Copa del Rey odds. Fans only had to wait a few weeks for another edition of one of soccer’s most storied rivalries. Real and Atletico meet again at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday, where Atleti have struggled recently. Fourth-placed Atletico Madrid haven’t won on the road at Real since 2016 and they’ve lost both meetings this season so far. After coming back from 2-0 down at Liverpool to win 5-2 on Tuesday, Real Madrid enter this match as ½-goal favorites. La Liga’s second-placed team sit at both -120 ATS and moneyline La Liga Matchday 23 odds.

Vinicius Jr. and Karim Benzema both got on the scoresheet twice on Tuesday as Real made the most of their opportunities. However, defender David Alaba went down with a hamstring injury and is a major doubt for this one. At the same time, midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni should return on Saturday after a bout with the flu. Three of Atletico’s last four La Liga matches have finished in 1-0 wins for Diego Simeone’s side. Atletico +½ shows even odds here, while Los Colchoneros come in at +335 odds to win the match.

Atletico have conceded just twice in their last five La Liga matches while Real have kept five consecutive La Liga shutouts. Real keeper Thibaut Courtois made a bad mistake vs. Liverpool but expect him to bounce back. Goals are expected to be scarce in this match, as under 2½ goals show -115 odds. Real have won the last four meetings at the Santiago Bernabeu, but a draw displays +270 odds for this one. Antoine Griezmann scored Atletico’s only goal last weekend and he’s their best creative hope for this match. Plus, Atletico defender Stefan Savic is returning from a suspension.

Other Top-Four Teams in Action:

VCF Valencia vs Real Sociedad RSO

Date & Time:

It’s been a trainwreck of a season for Valencia, who are currently in the relegation zone. Manager Gennaro Gattuso got sacked in January after publicly clashing with the board for not spending money in the transfer market. They’ve lost all four matches since. Valencia made the Champions League knockout stage just three years ago but are now on a six-game skid in all competitions. They’re in 19th place in the Spanish La Liga standings ahead of Saturday’s match vs. third-placed Real Sociedad. Despite Valencia’s horrendous form, this match is listed as a pick’em. Home side Valencia are priced at +125 odds to cover, while Sociedad are -145 ATS favorites.

Despite playing with a man up, Sociedad conceded a late equalizer to Celta Vigo on Saturday. They’ve now won just one of their last four matches but are firmly in the top four. Importantly, Mikel Oyarzabal scored just his second goal for the club on Saturday since returning from a long-term injury. The Txuri-Urdin are +140 moneyline favorites and have been excellent on the road this season. They’ve gone 8-1-2 away, which is the third-best road record in the league. Meanwhile, Valencia are just 4-2-5 at home this season and show +215 odds for Saturday’s match. Goals have been incredibly hard to come by for Valencia, as they’ve scored just once in their last five. Regardless, over two goals display -145 odds and a draw is priced at +220 odds.

ALM Almeria vs Barcelona BAR

Date & Time:

Despite drawing 2-2 vs. Manchester United last Thursday, Barcelona kept their La Liga winning streak alive. Xavi’s Barcelona kept a sixth clean sheet in their last seven matches as they defeated Cadiz 2-0. They’ll feel confident about their chances to extend their La Liga winning streak to eight games on Sunday. Barcelona do have to play the second leg of the Europa League Playoff this Thursday, though. They’ll have just two days of rest before heading to Almeria. Barcelona will also have to make do without star midfielder Pedri and winger Ousmane Dembele. Still, the La Liga leaders are one-goal favorites for Sunday’s match. Barcelona sit at -145 odds to cover the spread and -230 odds to win.

The La Liga Matchday 23 odds give Almeria just a +125 price to cover the spread and +600 to win. Barcelona are on a seven-game winning streak in this fixture and Almeria have never defeated Barça in a La Liga match. Almeria last managed a draw in this fixture in 2010 and a draw displays just +385 odds. Plus, Barcelona won the reverse fixture 2-0 as Dembele and Frenkie De Jong got on the scoresheet.

Barcelona have a pair of league leaders on their roster. Robert Lewandowski leads the La Liga field with 15 goals and Marc-Andre ter Stegen has kept an incredible 17 clean sheets in 22 matches. With Barcelona’s defensive record, it’s no surprise that under three goals come in at -120 odds for the match. All the while, Almeria have been dreadful on defense in recent weeks. They’ve dropped their last three matches and have conceded 11 goals in the process.
