Real Oviedo vs Espanyol Head-to-Head:

This season, the home team won both meetings between Real Oviedo and Espanyol. Oviedo shut out Espanyol at home and picked up a 2-0 victory in December. Meanwhile, Espanyol came back to take down Oviedo 2-1 last month.

The only other two recent meetings were during the 2020-21 La Liga 2 season, when Espanyol drew 1-1 at Stage Front Stadium and won 2-0 in Oviedo. Oviedo last won on the road vs Espanyol in 1991 and Espanyol are 8-2-0 at home in this fixture since then.

Real Oviedo Dreaming of Long-Awaited Return to La Liga

Real Oviedo grabbed their first road victory over Eibar since 1957 on Wednesday. Oviedo, with goals from Alexandre Alemao and Sebas Moyano, quieted the crowd at the Ipurua and won 2-0.

  • Oviedo won on Wednesday even though the La Liga 2 odds listed them as +270 underdogs. Leo Roman made a few key stops in goal for Oviedo, and he’ll certainly be tested in the next two matches.

During the season, Oviedo finished in sixth place, and they qualified for the Promotion Play-off despite losing four of their last seven games.

Oviedo did lose just two home games all season and the Carlos Tartiere won’t be an easy place for Espanyol to play on Sunday. Borja Baston leads the team this season, with 10 goals, and he provided an assist on Wednesday.

Roman and the defense have stepped up when it has mattered most. Oviedo have kept five clean sheets in their last seven games. Eibar were the highest scoring team in La Liga 2 during the regular season, by a wide margin, but they couldn’t manage to find the net vs Oviedo.

Real Oviedo haven’t played in La Liga since the 2000-01 season and they appear highly motivated to get back.

Espanyol Extend Unbeaten Streak

Espanyol’s unbeaten streak now stands at 18 games after Thursday’s scoreless draw vs Sporting Gijon. The Parakeets only needed a draw to advance to the 2024 La Liga 2 Final and they’ve now conceded just one goal in their last seven matches.

Espanyol don’t give away many good chances to their opponents and Gijon managed just six shots on target over the two legs of the Semifinal.

Last Sunday, Espanyol defeated Sporting Gijon 1-0 as Javi Puado finished off a pass from Martin Braithwaite. Puado and Braithwaite have been the key attacking players for Espanyol this season. Braithwaite led the league in goals and Puado has managed 16 goal contributions, in all competitions.

Bettors should be aware Espanyol have never remained in the Segunda Division in consecutive seasons. Espanyol fired both Luis Garcia and Luis Ramis this season because they weren’t progressing toward promotion as they had hoped.

Under Manolo Gonzalez, Espanyol are 5-9-0 and they finished in fourth place in the Spanish La Liga 2 standings.

Real Oviedo vs Espanyol Match Analysis & Odds

Neither team conceded in the Promotion Play-off Semifinals and chances could be hard to come by here. Espanyol have the more potent attack but Oviedo have neutralized their opponents at home as of late.

  • Real Oviedo have kept three straight home clean sheets and the 2024 La Liga 2 Final odds list them as +125 favorites for Sunday’s first leg.
  • Notably, Espanyol’s Omar El Hilali picked up a red card in the closing stages of the second leg vs Sporting Gijon. He’ll miss this match, which means Oscar Gil will likely start at right back. Espanyol are currently +220 and a draw is priced at the same odds.
  • Real Oviedo pk, -0.5 comes in at -125, while Espanyol pk, +0.5 displays -115 odds and isn’t a bad pick given their recent form. As both sides have kept back-to-back shutouts, no one would be surprised if this is a low scoring match. Currently, under 2.5 goals sit at -180 odds.

Both goalkeepers were among the league’s best during the regular season. Espanyol’s Joan Garcia led the league, with an 82.5 save percentage and Leo Roman was fourth, with a 79.1 save percentage.
