Real Madrid Open Up La Liga Season At Mallorca
Mallorca vs Real Madrid Preview: Los Blancos Favored On The Road
La Liga Debut for Mbappe
Kylian Mbappe kicked off his Real Madrid career with a goal in Wednesday’s 2-0 UEFA Super Cup victory over Atalanta. Now, he’ll look to score a La Liga debut goal as Real Madrid head to Mallorca on Sunday.
Mallorca are a hard-nosed outfit, and they’re kicking off the 2024-25 season with a new coach, Jagoba Arrasate. Real enter as road favorites on Sunday, and in our Mallorca vs Real Madrid preview, we’ll check out the full odds board.
Mallorca vs Real Madrid Head-to-Head:
Real Madrid defeated Mallorca 1-0 in both of their 2023-2024 La Liga matches. In fact, each of the last three meetings has finished with only one goal. Real Madrid have won six of their last seven matches against Mallorca.
Mallorca vs Real Madrid preview note that Mallorca are 2-2 in their last four home games against Real Madrid. However, Mallorca has averaged just 0.6 goals per game in the last 10 head-to-head matchups.
Mallorca Get Started Under Arrasate
2023-24 Season:
- La Liga: 8-16-14 (15th)
- Copa del Rey: Finalists, lost 1-1 (2-4 pk) to Athletic Club
In 2023-24, only two La Liga teams scored fewer goals than Mallorca. The Islanders only found the net 33 times in 38 games and finished in 15th place in the La Liga table. A run to the Copa del Rey final was a silver lining for their season but they lost in penalties to Athletic Club.
After two plus years of Javier Aguirre, Jagoba Arrasate has taken over Mallorca’s head coaching position. Arrasate spent six seasons at Osasuna and led them to the UEFA Europa Conference League qualifiers in 2022-23.
In 2023-24, Vedat Muriqi led Mallorca in La Liga, with just seven goals. Arrasate will hope to get the best out of Muriqi and Japanese international Takuma Asano, who just signed for Mallorca after scoring six goals for VfL Bochum last season.
In defense, Mallorca signed Colombian international left-back Johan Mojica and right-back Mateu Morey. Meanwhile, Leo Roman should take over the starting goalkeeper position after returning from a successful loan spell at Real Oviedo.
Real Kick-Off Season With Super Cup Trophy
2023-24 Season:
- La Liga: 29-8-1 (1st)
- Champions League: Champions, defeated Borussia Dortmund 2-0 in final
- Copa del Rey: Round of 16, lost 4-2 (a.e.t) at Atletico Madrid
- Supercopa de España: Champions, defeated Barcelona 4-1 in final
Real Madrid got their 2024-25 season underway with a 2-0 victory over Atalanta in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday. Some of their passing moves were ridiculously intricate and they were almost toying with Atalanta at times.
Vinicius Junior created Real’s first goal, as he set up Federico Valverde for a tap-in in the 59th minute. Then, Jude Bellingham assisted Kylian Mbappe for a goal on his competitive debut. Mbappe’s unveiling, after signing on a free transfer from PSG, attracted 80,000 fans and he’s one of the most exciting signings in Real Madrid history.
With Mbappe and Endrick in the attacking fold, most La Liga predictions have Real winning a second straight La Liga title. They’re entering the La Liga season as -250 favorites and Carlo Ancelotti can become the most decorated manager in Real Madrid history with one more trophy this season.
- Currently, defender David Alaba is out with a knee injury, and midfielder Eduardo Camavinga has a sprained MCL. Still, Real’s depth is excellent, and they should challenge on all fronts, as always.
