David vs. Goliath

Real on Short Rest After Thursday’s Madrid Derby

Real Madrid didn’t play a La Liga match last week as they were in Saudi Arabia for the Supercopa de España. Los Blancos came away with their first trophy of the season.

On Thursday, they’ll face Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey round of 16 for the second time in eight days. Then, Real take on last-placed La Liga side Almeria on Sunday. In a David vs. Goliath matchup, Almeria is looking for their first win of the season. We’ll check out the odds and team news in our Real Madrid vs Almeria La Liga preview.

Real Madrid vs Almeria Head-to-Head

Real Madrid vs Almeria La Liga previews note that Real have won their last eight games on the La Liga schedule vs. Almeria. Back in August, Jude Bellingham scored twice as Los Blancos picked up a 3-1 road win over Almeria.

Real have defeated Almeria by a multi-goal margin in seven of the last eight meetings. Almeria’s previous victory over Real Madrid was back in 2008.

Real Scoring With Ease

Real Madrid faced two of La Liga’s best teams last week and scored nine goals in two matches. In the Supercopa de España semifinal, Real went up against rivals Atletico Madrid, and a wild match finished 3-3. Joselu and Brahim Diaz scored goals in extra time to send Los Blancos to the final. In the final, which was another edition of El Clasico, Real Madrid took down Barcelona 4-1 to win the trophy.

Vinicius Jr. scored a first-half hat trick in the match and is getting back to his best following a spell on the sidelines due to injury. Real Madrid enter Thursday’s Copa del Rey round of 16 match at Atletico on a 21-game unbeaten streak.

Expect Carlo Ancelotti to play his best players for the Derby match. One point behind La Liga leaders Girona, Real will also be looking for all three points on Sunday vs. Almeria.

Even though he hasn’t scored for a month, Jude Bellingham still leads the La Liga stats with 13 goals. Meanwhile, Toni Kroos is on top of the assist charts, with six. Currently, Lucas Vazquez, Eder Militao, Thibaut Courtois, and David Alaba are out injured. As a result, Ancelotti will continue to rely on Nacho and Antonio Rudiger in defense for the rest of the campaign.

Almeria Come Close to First Win

Almeria has been one of the most disappointing soccer betting picks of the season. The side from the South of Spain are still winless, with a 0-6-14 record in La Liga this season. Granted, they did come quite close to defeating La Liga leaders Girona last weekend. Almeria outshot Girona 20-5 last Sunday to no avail.

The match finished scoreless and all of Almeria’s recent matches have been close. They’ve drawn three of their last six matches and all of their last seven have finished all square or been decided by a one-goal margin.

So, this might not end up being a walk in the park for Real Madrid. Still, Almeria does have three players away at the Africa Cup of Nations.

All of Iddrisu Baba, Marciano, and Houboulang Mendes are at the tournament but only Baba has been a regular this season. Plus, Arnau Puigmal and Ibrahima Kone are injured. Leo Baptistao is also out due to a suspension.

Baptistao is Almeria’s second-leading scorer this season, with four goals and he’ll be missed on Sunday. Luis Javier Suarez could replace the striker in the starting lineup and Suarez has been Almeria’s most productive goal scorer on a per minute basis anyway.

Bettors should note Almeria has scored just three goals in their last six matches. However, their defense has also tightened up during that period, as they’ve conceded just one goal per game.

Real Madrid vs Almeria Match Analysis & Odds

Real Madrid vs Almeria La Liga previews note that Almeria has never won at the Santiago Bernabeu. La Liga’s last-placed team will try to make history as they look to climb out of the doldrums of the relegation zone.

Almeria are out of the Copa del Rey, so they do enjoy a rest advantage over Real heading into this one. Still, Real Madrid comes in as a -675 favorite for Sunday’s match.

Bettors can take Real -2, -2.5 at -115 odds and Almeria +2, +2.5 at -105. Recall that Almeria hasn’t lost by a two-goal margin or more for over two months.

The visitors are +1300 underdogs, which stands to reason given their 0-7 all-time record away at Real Madrid. In those matches, Real Madrid have outscored Almeria 29-6.

A draw would be a highly disappointing result for Real Madrid but one shows +775 odds for this one. Both over and under 3.5, 4 goals are priced at -110 odds for this one. Real did put three goals on Almeria in the reverse fixture, which finished 3-1.
