Ligue 1 Matchday 20 Odds & Preview: Lorient started the Ligue 1

Ligue 1 Title Race Heats Up

PSG’s Lead Down to Three Points

With two losses in their last three matches, PSG are now only three points ahead of second place Lens. It seems inconceivable that a team with Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi could fail to win the title. Yet, things could get interesting in the second half of the Ligue 1 season. Both Lens and Marseille are within five points of PSG and Marseille have been on fire lately. All three of these teams are favored this weekend and we’ll take a closer look at the Ligue 1 Matchday 20 odds.

Games of the Week

LOR Lorient vs Rennes REN

Date & Time:

Lorient started the Ligue 1 season off with a 1-0 win at Rennes. Now, Lorient host Rennes for the reverse fixture with the two clubs’ fortunes reversed. Lorient lost just one of their first 12 games. Since then, they’ve lost four of their last seven and dropped to seventh place in the table. Meanwhile, Rennes recently defeated PSG as Hamari Traore scored the winner and are currently in fourth.

The problem for Rennes has been playing away from home this season. They’re 9-0-1 at home but just 2-4-3 on the road this season. Heading into Friday’s match, they are favorites to get just their third win in 10 road matches, though.

Visitors Rennes show both -110 ATS and moneyline Ligue 1 Matchday 20 odds. Unfortunately for them, they’ll have to make do without leading scorer Martin Terrier for the rest of the season. Terrier found the net nine times in 16 matches before tearing his ACL. Jeremy Doku figures to receive more minutes going forward. Meanwhile, Lorient goal-scoring machine Terem Moffi is fit and ready for Friday’s match.

He’s scored 12 goals this season and only trails Kylian Mbappe in the Ligue 1 goals charts. His Lorient are +295 underdogs but are -120 favorites to cover the ½-goal spread. Rennes have won five of the last seven meetings and just one of those has finished in a draw.

Regardless, bettors can find a draw at +265 odds. Rennes were previously on an impressive scoring streak, in all competitions, before Marseille shut them out 1-0 in the Coupe de France last Friday.

Rennes had scored in 25 straight games and they haven’t failed to score in Ligue 1 since losing to Lorient in their first match of the season. Lorient, on the other hand, have only failed to score twice in Ligue 1 this season. Unsurprisingly, over 2½ goals comes in at -125 odds here.

OM Marseille vs Monaco MON

Date & Time:

Marseille and Monaco contested a five-goal thriller back in November, which Marseille won 3-2. In fact, the away team has won the last three fixtures between these two sides. With both teams in the top four, this is a big match.

Marseille enter the weekend in third place in the Ligue 1 standings, five points ahead of fourth place Monaco. Monaco have been scoring in bunches since the World Cup break ended, though.

They’ve found the net 13 times in their last four Ligue 1 matches and put seven on Ajaccio a couple weeks back. Wissam Ben Yedder scored a hat trick in the 7-1 win and has five goals in his last four Ligue 1 games.

Even with all the scoring, Monaco are road underdogs heading into Saturday. Monaco +½ shows -140 odds though and they could very well get a result here. Monaco also are priced at +215 odds to win their fourth Ligue 1 match in their last five. Still, Marseille have been on fire as of late.

They’ve won their last six Ligue 1 matches and come in at +110 ATS and moneyline odds. Marseille have also scored 13 goals in their last four Ligue 1 matches with a balanced scoring attack.

If Marseille can get wingback Jonathan Clauss back from a groin injury in time for this match, it’d be a huge boost. Clauss has seven assists on the season already, which ranks third in Ligue 1. Alexis Sanchez is still a threat up front for OM, even as he enters the twilight of his career.

Both Ben Yedder and Breel Embolo have 10+ goals for Monaco this season and they’re one of the league’s best one-two punches. The opportunity for goals in this match is certainly there but under three goals sits at -150 odds. These teams haven’t drawn since 2019, either, but a deadlock comes in at +270 odds.

NIC Nice vs Lille LIL

Date & Time:

Lille started off the season slowly but are another surging Ligue 1 side. They’re unbeaten in their last six league matches and head to Nice on Sunday. It’s been an up and down season for Nice, but they’re just a couple weeks removed from a 6-1 win over Montpellier.

However, Nice have been disappointing at home this season. Their 3-3-3 home record ranks just 13th in the league. Lille are +145 favorites for Sunday’s match in a pick’em.

Ligue 1 Matchday 20 odds price Nice at +110 to cover and Lille at -140. The last six meetings are exactly even, with two wins for each side and two draws. The away team has won the last three meetings, though. Lille’s Jonathan David and Mohamed Bayo have been excellent since the league restarted.

They’ve both been on the scoresheet three times in the last four matches. Meanwhile, David has 12 goals on the season and is certainly in the running for the Ligue 1 golden boot. David currently sits at +800 odds to win the award.

Nice come into Sunday’s match at +195 moneyline odds and a draw displays +220 odds. Lille have conceded just twice in their last five Ligue 1 matches and have certainly tightened up on defense lately.

It’s unclear whether key Lille midfielder Jonathan Bamba will be able to suit up for this one, though. He’s been out for a few weeks with a calf issue but LOSC have managed just fine without him.

Lille have also been one of the better Ligue 1 teams on the road this season, with four wins, two draws and three losses. With how well they’ve been performing on defense, under 2½ goals show -130 odds for Sunday’s match.

PSG PSG vs Reims REI

Date & Time:

This is a must win match for Paris Saint-Germain, who lost 1-0 to Rennes in their last Ligue 1 match. The Parisians regained some confidence on Monday, though, by winning 7-0 in the Coupe de France on Monday.

Kylian Mbappe scored five goals vs. sixth division side Pays de Cassel. Incredibly, Reims are unbeaten in their last 13 matches in all competitions.

Plus, the last time these teams met it finished in a scoreless draw back in October. Sergio Ramos’s first half red card made PSG’s job much harder but they came away with a point.

Despite PSG’s shaky form, their odds to win Ligue 1 are very short, at -5000. They’re 1½-goal favorites vs. Reims and come in at -140 odds to cover the spread.

PSG’s moneyline sits at -370 odds while Reims are +825 underdogs and show +110 odds to cover. Another draw is listed at +545 odds but PSG have won five of the last six meetings.

PSG could also get midfield lynchpin Marco Verratti back from injury in time for this clash. His absence was certainly felt in the loss to Rennes.

The main danger man for Reims is on-loan Arsenal forward Folarin Balogun. Balogun has scored ten times already this season and is an outside contender for the golden boot.

PSG’s attackers need no introduction and all three of Messi, Mbappe and Neymar are in the top five for goal contributions this season. Neymar leads the way with 11 goals and ten assists, while Lionel Messi has scored eight times and provided ten assists.

Mbappe leads the league with 13 goals and has provided two assists as well. With all of the attacking talent on display, over three goals sit at -140 odds for Sunday’s match.
