Ligue 1 Matchday 23 Odds: Monaco Host PSG

PSG Extend Ligue 1 Lead

Monaco vs PSG Headlines Weekend Slate

Lionel Messi’s winning goal vs. Toulouse handed Paris Saint-Germain an eight-point lead at the top of the Ligue 1 table. PSG got help from Marseille and Monaco who lost and drew last weekend, respectively. The Parisians are now -10000 favorites to win the league but there are still 16 games remaining. It would certainly help their title chances further if they’re able to get a road win vs. a tough Monaco side this weekend. We’ll take a look at the game of the week and some other Ligue 1 Matchday 23 odds.

Match of the Week

MON Monaco vs PSG PSG

Date & Time:

None of the rest of the Ligue 1 games of the week can compare to this one. Monaco are one of the few Ligue 1 teams that have been able to compete with PSG over the last few years. They’re also on a seven-game Ligue 1 unbeaten run. AS Monaco have lost just one of their last five Ligue 1 matches vs. PSG and drew the reverse fixture 1-1. It’s exceedingly rare that PSG enter a Ligue 1 match with under 50 percent implied odds to win but that’s exactly the situation they find themselves in here. The Parisians sit at +110 ATS and moneyline odds for Saturday’s match.

That undoubtedly has to do with Kylian Mbappe missing the next few weeks with a thigh injury. The superstar winger is PSG’s leading scorer this season, with 13 goals, and not at all replaceable. Both Mbappe and Neymar missed PSG’s 2-1 win over Toulouse but Neymar is expected to be back in time for this one. Marco Verratti is also back from suspension and could start on Saturday. In the meantime, PSG have quite a difficult Coupe de France round of 16 match at Marseille on Wednesday. Monaco are already out of the Coupe de France and have some extra rest heading into Saturday. Monaco +½ shows -140 and the hosts sit at +205 odds to win the match.

In the 2-0 Matchday 22 win over Clermont, Monaco’s Breel Embolo got on the scoresheet for the fourth time in the last four games. He and Wissam Ben Yedder have both scored 12 times this season and are in the running for the Ligue 1 Golden Boot. Monaco’s 17-year old phenom Eliesse Ben Seghir has also emerged as a legitimate attacking threat and should be back from injury in time for this one. Four of the last five meetings between these two teams have finished with two or fewer goals. Under three goals comes in at -125 odds for Saturday’s clash. Another draw also shows +280 odds but both teams will be thinking about a win.

Other Matches to Watch

CLE Clermont vs Marseille OM

Date & Time:

Nice ended Marseille’s nine-game unbeaten run on Sunday with a deserved 3-1 win. Marseille will look to bounce back on the road at Clermont on Saturday. First, their focus will be on their round of 16 Coupe de France match vs. PSG on Wednesday. With just two days of rest, Marseille are still ½-goal favorites at Clermont. OM display both -135 ATS and moneyline odds.

Clermont are winless in their last three matches and come in at +105 odds to cover the spread. The Ligue 1 betting odds also price Clermont as +360 underdogs and they fell 2-0 to Monaco on Sunday. Only four teams have scored fewer goals than Clermont this season and they’re scoreless in their last three games. Two of those were scoreless draws and another draw sits at +260 odds. Meanwhile, under 2½ goals displays -125 odds for Saturday’s match.

Clermont have lacked a prolific striker this season as none of their players have scored more than four goals. Marseille are on a ten-game scoring streak and have averaged 1.8 goals per game in their last five. Last weekend, new Marseille signing Vitinha failed to impress in his debut. Alexis Sanchez could be back in the starting lineup sooner rather than later and Azzedine Ounahi could join him in midfield. Eric Bailly is also eligible to return for OM after a seven-match suspension.

TOU Toulouse vs Rennes REN

Date & Time:

Rennes have struggled a bit lately, with three losses in their last five games. They’ve dropped down to fifth place and are currently six points outside of a Champions League place. They desperately need a win at 12th-placed Toulouse on Sunday. Toulouse were on a five-game unbeaten run before losing 2-1 to PSG on Matchday 22 and have improved recently. The reverse fixture finished in a 2-1 win for Rennes but the Ligue 1 Matchday 23 odds list this match as a pick’em.

Toulouse have been excellent at home this season, with just two losses in 11 matches. They come in at +120 odds to cover and +215 odds to win the match. Branco van den Boomen and Thijs Dallinga have been a good one-two punch for Toulouse this season and have combined for 12 goals. Although Rennes have struggled to pick up points recently, they’re on a 21-match scoring streak in Ligue 1. They lost 3-1 to Lille last weekend but added firepower in the transfer window with Karl Toko Ekambi. Rennes show at -150 odds to cover and +130 odds to win Sunday’s match.

Rennes could get back both defender Hamari Traore and midfielder Lovro Majer in time for this one. Amine Gouiri has scored three times in the last two matches and is a threat to get on the scoresheet once again. Given Rennes’ scoring streak, over 2½ goals for the match shows -135 odds. Rennes are unbeaten in the last seven meetings in all competitions and a draw sits at +240 odds for the match.

OL Lyon vs Lens LEN

Date & Time:

Lyon’s youth-filled lineup defeated Troyes 3-1 on Saturday. Bradley Barcola, a 20-year old forward, and Rayan Cherki, a 19-year old midfielder, both got on the scoresheet. Malo Gusto, who is also 19, is back with Lyon after getting loaned from new club Chelsea. OL host third-placed Lens on Sunday in an important match. Should Lens lose, it’ll be a huge uphill climb to catch league leaders PSG. Lens have just one win in their last five matches and are +200 underdogs for this match.

In this pick’em, Lyon come in at -145 odds to cover and Lens show +115 odds. The Ligue 1 Matchday 23 odds also price Lyon at +135 odds to win the match. They’ve picked up eight points in their last five matches but are only in ninth place. Meanwhile, the only top half team that has picked up fewer points than Lens in the last five matches is Lorient. Lens have missed attackers Wesley Said and Adam Buksa recently as they’ve averaged just one goal per game in their last five.

Two of the last four meetings between these teams have finished in draws. A draw sits at +250 odds in a match that’s expected to produce a few goals. Lens have conceded the fewest goals in the league, with just 16 allowed, but over 2½ goals are priced at -125 odds. Lens will get defender Kevin Danso back from a suspension for the match, which certainly is a boost.
