Ligue 1: PSG vs Marseille Odds, Preview

Le Classique on Sunday

Short Rest for Marseille

Marseille enters the weekend ahead of rivals PSG in Ligue 1. Last Friday, PSG fell 3-2 to Nice at home as Kylian Mbappe’s two goals were effectively nullified by a two-goal, one-assist performance from Nice’s Terem Moffi. Meanwhile, OM couldn’t defeat a ten-man Nantes side last weekend. Plus, coach Marcelino departed before Marseille’s match at Ajax on Thursday in the Europa League. Without a permanent coach in France’s biggest rivalry game, we’ll see if OM can compete as we check out the PSG vs Marseille odds.

PSG PSG vs Marseille OM

Date & Time:
Location: Parc des Princes, Paris, France

Head-to-Head:

Last season, PSG didn’t concede a goal to Marseille in two matches on the French Ligue 1 schedule. Paris Saint-Germain are unbeaten in their last six Ligue 1 games vs. Marseille and have won the previous three. Although, OM did manage to defeat PSG 2-1 in the round of 16 of the Coupe de France last season. Marseille has also scored in just one of the last five Ligue 1 Le Classiques.

PSG Bounce Back

To say PSG’s 3-2 loss vs. Nice last Friday was disappointing would be an understatement. It was already the third time the two-time defending champions have dropped points this season. Still, they only find themselves three points behind current league leaders Monaco in the French Ligue 1 table heading into the weekend. Midweek, Paris Saint-Germain also took on Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League opener.

PSG successfully bounced back from last weekend’s loss with a solid 2-0 win at the Parc des Princes. Kylian Mbappe opened up the scoring by converting a penalty early in the second half. Just under ten minutes later, right back Achraf Hakimi doubled the Parisians’ lead with a well-taken finish.

Tuesday’s victory showed PSG can raise their game vs. Europe’s big dogs, but Luis Enrique will be looking for more consistency in Ligue 1. Regardless of the opponent, one constant has been Mbappe getting on the scoresheet. Mbappe didn’t play in PSG’s Ligue 1 opener but has scored in every match since.

He currently leads the league with seven goals and the new front line of Mbappe, Ousmane Dembele, and Randal Kolo Muani is dangerous. With their attacking prowess, the PSG vs Marseille odds list the hosts as -140 favorites for Sunday’s Classique.

Marseille Complete Midweek Comeback

Marseille easily could have folded on Thursday in their Europa League opener on the road at Ajax. With off-the-field issues hanging over their heads, OM fell behind 2-0 within 20 minutes. Still, Marseille kept pushing on, and wingback Jonathan Clauss fired a shot into the net to get a goal back in the 23rd minute. Before the half, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored an equalizer, building some confidence.

OM fell behind once again in the second half but Aubameyang scored his second goal of the match and proceedings finished 3-3. Overall, it wasn’t a bad start to Jacques Abardonado’s tenure as Marseille’s interim manager. He is inheriting a team that is in third place in the Ligue 1 standings, with two wins and three draws.

Marseille have drawn their last two matches in Ligue 1 vs. teams they’d usually be expected to defeat. Last weekend’s match vs. Toulouse finished scoreless and they drew 1-1 at Nantes just before the international break. Even with the personnel changes, expectations are still high for Marseille this season, and they’ve got a squad that can compete for a Champions League place.

Match Analysis & Odds

Le Classiques between PSG and Marseille are typically fiery affairs and this one shouldn’t be any different. We should see a PSG lineup that more closely resembles Tuesday’s vs. Borussia Dortmund than the one that faced Nice last Friday. Captain and center-back Marquinhos sat out the defeat to Nice and expects him to be in the starting lineup for this one.

The PSG vs Marseille odds list Paris Saint-Germain as -140 favorites for this one, and Marseille are +400 underdogs. The last three Ligue 1 meetings at the Parc des Princes between the two sides have all been decided by a one-goal margin. Here, PSG are one-goal favorites and show -110 odds to cover. OM +1 sits at -120, as Jacques Abardanado can endear himself to the Marseille fans by snagging a rivalry win.

Bettors can also find a draw at +360 odds, and anything less than a win for PSG would be a disappointment. While this is Abardanado’s first Ligue 1 game in charge of Marseille, it’s also PSG boss Luis Enrique’s first Classique. There’s genuine animosity between both groups of fans, so expect a tense atmosphere for this one. In all competitions, none of the last eight meetings have finished with more than three goals, but over three goals show -120 odds.
