Ligue 1: Reims vs PSG Game Odds & Preview

PSG Still Chasing Nice

Top Four Matchup on Saturday

Reims were one of the most surprising teams in Ligue 1 last season. They went on a 19-game unbeaten run at one point under young manager Will Still. They’ve gotten off to a great start this season as well and entered Matchday 12 in fourth place, with a 6-2-3 record. PSG have shaken off a slow start and have won their last four matches in Ligue 1. The Parisians enter the weekend just one point behind leaders Nice. Ahead of the Ligue 1 match of the week, we’ll preview the Reims vs PSG game odds.

REI Reims vs PSG PSG

Day/Time:
Location: Stade Auguste-Delaune, Reims, France

Head-to-Head:

Reims managed to avoid defeat in both of their matches vs. PSG last season and covered the soccer betting spread in both matches. However, they are winless in the last seven meetings. Folarin Balogun, now with Monaco, scored a stoppage time equalizer for Reims to secure a 1-1 draw in the most recent meeting. The other 2022-23 fixture between these teams finished scoreless. PSG have conceded just one goal in their last seven matches vs. Reims and hold a 5-2-0 record during that time.

Reims Still Turning Heads

Most pre-season Ligue 1 predictions had Reims nowhere near the top four. Yet, that’s exactly where they are after 11 games. Reims got a hard fought 1-0 win at Nantes with coach Will Still banned from the touchline last Sunday. Substitute forward Mohamed Daramy did great work to beat a defender and send in a cross that Junya Ito slotted home.

After 11 games, Reims have 20 points, which is their most at this point in a top-flight season since 1974-75. Losing Folarin Balogun hasn’t made too much of an impact, as other Ligue 1 players have stepped up. French-Maltese midfielder Teddy Teuma, who signed from Union Saint-Gilloise over the Summer, leads Reims with four goals this season. However, he’ll miss the match vs. PSG due to a suspension. Daramy has scored twice and provided three assists, while Ito has four goal contributions so far. Reims have also improved on defense in recent weeks, with back-to-back shutout wins.

They’ve kept clean sheets in three of their last five matches and have also scored in every game they’ve played this season. Goalkeeper Yehvann Diouf is fourth in Ligue 1 with a 1.09 goals-against average per 90 minutes. It has been a standout as well as he ranks in the top ten in the league in categories like shot creating actions and successful take ons.

Midweek Loss Provides Motivation for PSG

Paris Saint-Germain went to the San Siro on Tuesday to take on AC Milan in the Champions League. PSG got out to an early lead when Milan Skriniar finished off a Marquinhos flick-on in the ninth minute. It didn’t take long for Milan to equalize as Rafael Leao scored an overhead kick. Olivier Giroud gave Milan the lead with a second half header and the Rossoneri held on.

PSG’s schedule shows they won their previous five matches, in all competitions. Tuesday marked the first time PSG failed to score multiple goals in a match for over a month. Ousmane Dembele did hit the crossbar but Kylian Mbappe was quiet. Coming off a loss, the Reims vs PSG game odds list the visitors as -165 favorites for this match.

Things won’t necessarily be easy for PSG as Randal Kolo Muani and Achraf Hakimi are suspended for this match. Plus, Danilo Pereira, Marco Asensio, and Nuno Mendes are still out injured. Mbappe still leads the league with 10 goals and Dembele has been one of the league’s most dangerous players.

Match Analysis & Odds

Don’t put it past Will Still to devise a plan that neutralizes the threats that Paris Saint-Germain poses. His job becomes a bit easier with Hakimi and Kolo Muani out but PSG still has a lot of impact players. Warren Zaire-Emery and Lee Kang-in have also stepped up in recent weeks for Luis Enrique’s PSG. While bettors can take a third straight draw in this fixture at +350 odds, PSG are -165 favorites.

The Reims vs PSG game odds also price the hosts as +390 underdogs and goals for Reims in this fixture have been rare. Still, Reims are on an 11-game scoring streak to open up the season and are growing in confidence. Bettors can take PSG -1 at -110, while Reims +1 comes in at -120.

PSG have scored three goals in each of their last four Ligue 1 matches and are still on a four-game winning streak in the league. They’re just one point behind leaders Nice and PSG can catch Nice this week if the latter draws or loses. With both teams proven to be capable of scoring goals, over three goals come in at -115 odds here.
