Striker Jonathan David didn’t manage to get on the scoresheet but he’s been superb as of late.
David is second on the list of Ligue 1 top scorers, with 15 goals. He’s also managed to find the net 11 times in his last eight starts, in all competitions. Lille has some big matches in the coming weeks and will take on Aston Villa in the first leg of the UEFA Europa Conference League Quarter-Final next Thursday.
Bettors should note that Lille are 9-3-1 at home in Ligue 1 this season and are unbeaten in their last six games overall. Plus, they haven’t lost any of their last 14 home matches. Marseille failed to take advantage of being a man up and fell 2-0 to PSG in Le Classique on Sunday. PSG’s Lucas Beraldo received a controversial straight red card in the 40th minute, which meant Jean-Louis Gasset’s OM had 50 minutes to play with a man advantage. To be fair, Marseille did have their chances and PSG keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma was up to the task. He saved 10 shots and Vitinha and Goncalo Ramos scored for PSG in the Marseille loss.
As a result, Marseille remained in seventh place in the Ligue 1 standings. OM are currently seven points behind fourth-placed Lille with just seven games to play. While Sunday marked Marseille’s first home loss of the campaign, they’ve been dreadful on the road in Ligue 1. OM entered the weekend with just a 2-4-7 record away from the Velodrome. Outside of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Marseille hasn’t been scoring much.
