PSG Held to Draw By Monaco

Monaco managed to hold defending Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain to a 1-1 draw on Ligue 1 Matchday 4. Just like that, there are no remaining teams with perfect records. PSG, along with Marseille and Lens are currently sitting on ten points, though. Teams are on short rest as we gear up for a full slate of ten-midweek games. Let’s take a look at the Ligue 1 Matchday 5 odds for some of Wednesday’s biggest games.

Lyon vs Auxerre: Wednesday, 1 p.m. EST

Lucas Paqueta has already played his last match in a Lyon uniform as the midfielder is off to West Ham. OL could have used his creativity on Sunday when it took an 86th-minute equalizer to draw level with ten-man Reims. With Houssem Aouar out through injury, Lyon may be lacking in midfield depth over the next few weeks. That could be a problem as they host Auxerre on Wednesday.

Lyon, -365 favorites, have taken seven points through three matches. Meanwhile, newly promoted Auxerre are unbeaten in their last three matches as well. Auxerre may be +850 underdogs, according to the Ligue 1 Matchday 5 odds, but they certainly won’t be lacking in belief. Especially after defeating Montpellier and Strasbourg in consecutive weeks.

OL are favored to cover the 1½-goal spread, at -145 odds, and are averaging over two goals per game so far. The over/under goals total currently stands at 3½ and these teams only have one shutout between them so far.

LOSC Lille vs Nice: Wednesday, 3 p.m.

Lille responded well to a 7-1 battering at PSG’s hands to defeat Ajaccio 3-1 last weekend. Now, they’ll take on Nice in what’s usually a highly entertaining fixture. To put it lightly, Nice has had a difficult start to the season and just lost 3-0 to Marseille. Lucien Favre will hope that the addition of Nicolas Pepe, on loan from Arsenal, can provide more goals.

The away team won both meetings last season but hosts Lille are even money favorites coming into Wednesday. The Jonathans, Bamba, and David, have two goals apiece this season. Jonathan Bamba has scored in Lille’s last two games and figures to play a key role again. Nice, who are +280 underdogs, still haven’t won but they’ve got a fair bit of talent on their roster. Unfortunately for them, midfielder Mario Lemina is out another two games while he serves a red card suspension.

Four goals were scored in each of the meetings last season but over 2½ goals show just a -110 price. There have also been two draws in the last five head-to-head meetings and another draw sits at +255 odds.

RC Lens vs Lorient: Wednesday, 3 p.m.

RC Lens have started the season very well, much like they did last season. With three wins and a draw, they’re currently in the top three; however, there are still whispers that star midfielder Seko Fofana could leave the club by transfer deadline day on Thursday. If Lens keep Fofana, they’ll have a good shot of challenging for a European place this season.

Lens host another team on the up, in Lorient. Lorient has two wins and a draw so far and just beat Clermont 2-1. Terem Moffi scored a brace in Sunday’s Ligue 1 match to hand Lorient the win. Still, Lorient is priced at just +500 odds. One of the better recent soccer betting tips has been taking Lorient to score in this fixture, though. They’ve found the net in each of the last four meetings.

In some ways, this is the most intriguing match on Wednesday. It’s the only game that features two unbeaten teams and it usually features goals. Three of the last four meetings have finished with four or more goals. Lens are -200 favorites, while over 2½ total goals show -125 odds.

Marseille vs Clermont Foot: Wednesday, 3 p.m.

Nuno Tavares found the scoresheet again for Marseille in their 3-0 win over Nice on Sunday. The Arsenal loanee is now in elite company, achieving something done only twice in the last 75 years. In that time, he and Laurent Blanc are the only Marseille defenders to score three goals in their first four Ligue 1 matches. In fact, another former Arsenal player, Alexis Sanchez, scored Marseille’s other two goals on Sunday.

OM have managed to find the net in each of their first four matches. However, Sunday was their first shutout of the season and they’ll hope for more of the same on Wednesday. Marseille host Clermont at the Stade Velodrome and the hosts are -250 favorites.

The last time these teams met in Marseille, Clermont came away with a shock 2-0 victory. The visitors show +675 Ligue 1 Matchday 5 odds to repeat. Clermont has also picked up two wins in their last three matches overall.

Toulouse vs PSG: Wednesday, 3 p.m.

It’s Toulouse vs Paris Saint-Germain on the Wednesday Ligue 1 schedule. PSG has dominated this fixture historically, but road matches can be tricky. There may be some added motivation on PSG’s part after they drew 1-1 with Monaco on Sunday. PSG hit the woodwork no fewer than three times but it wasn’t close to their best performance.

Toulouse lost Ligue 2’s top scorer last season, Rhys Healey to an ACL injury a couple of weekends ago. Perhaps it’s no coincidence that they lost 3-1 to Nantes on Sunday in his first match out. Visitors PSG are whopping -450 favorites and the spread is set at two goals. PSG have won each of the last five meetings but only two of them have come by a multi-goal margin.

The +1000 underdogs Toulouse are yet to play a match against any of last season’s top-four teams. It’ll be interesting to see how they try to contain the Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, and Lionel trio. They have 13 goals between them this season and occupy the first three spots on the Ligue 1 top scorers list. If nothing else, expect goals in a match where the total is set at over/under 3½.
