2024 Olympics Field Hockey Odds, Predictions and More

2024 Olympics Field Hockey Odds are here and the stage is set for thrilling hockey action at the upcoming games! The upcoming field hockey tournament sees the men’s competition divided into Group A with Netherlands, Germany, Great Britain, Spain, France, and South Africa. Group B features Belgium, India, Australia, Argentina, New Zealand, and Ireland.
For the women, Group A comprises Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Japan, China, and France. Group B consists of Australia, Argentina, Great Britain, Spain, United States, and South Africa.
The field hockey competition will be staged at a truly historic location: the Yves du Manoir Stadium in Colombes.
This iconic venue played a pivotal role in French sporting history, hosting the first-ever Olympic Games held in Paris back in 1924.
The Paris olympics schedule for the men’s tournament will start on July 27th with the quarter-finals games to take place on August 4th, semi-finals on August 6th and the bronze and gold medal matches kicking off Thursday, August 8th.
The women’s tournament will commence on July 27th as well with the quarter-finals on August 5th, semis on August 7th and the bronze and gold medal games on August 9th.
Oddsmakers believe the men’s tournament is pretty much wide open, with four different teams having shorter odds and the rest of the field being longer shots. The women’s tournament seems much more lopsided with the Netherlands women’s team as the heavy favorites.
Let’s take a look at 2024 Olympics Field Hockey Odds and see if there are some good value hockey picks to make in preparation for both these Olympic tournaments.

Men’s Tournament, Tight Competition
Belgium opens as the favorites to win gold again in the 2024 Paris Olympics, but the Netherlands, Australia and Germany will all be tight on their tale to steal the gold medal glory. The Tokyo Olympics had Belgium taking home gold after grabbing silver in Rio in 2016. Australia took silver and India came in third for bronze in Tokyo.
Germany, fresh off their 2023 World Cup victory, enter the Paris Olympics as another contender for field hockey gold. However, their path to glory won’t be a cakewalk. While they boast a rebuilding team with experience, their biggest advantage might be the addition of star player Gonzalo Peillat. Peillat, who defied expectations by switching sides and winning the World Cup with Germany after securing Olympic gold with Argentina in 2016, brings a wealth of experience and a winning mentality.
Despite Germany’s strength, they face stiff competition from Belgium, the defending champions who are integrating young talent. Netherlands, with their exciting young players under coach Jeroen Delmee, and two-time champion Australia also pose a serious threat.
India, the most decorated team with a staggering eight titles, eyes ending their gold drought that stretches back to 1980. At +1400 they present as a good value long shot pick.
Great Britain is a dark horse to look at as well. At +900 they present a great return, and they are coming off a solid run in the 2024 Men’s FIH Hockey Olympics Qualifiers where they lost to Germany in the title game 1-0.
It seems likely that one of Belgium, Germany, Netherlands or Australia will grab gold in Paris, but with four different teams vying for the top position, anything can happen.
Will Women’s Netherlands Dominance Continue?
The Netherlands women’s hockey team arrives at the Paris Olympics as the undisputed queens of the sport. Their legacy includes an impressive nine Olympic medals in ten appearances, including four gold medals across different decades.
Athens 2004 marked a turning point, where they claimed their first silver medal, followed by back-to-back golds in Beijing and London, solidifying their position as Olympic powerhouses. A narrow defeat in the 2016 Rio finals was a minor blip, as they bounced back with another gold in Tokyo 2020.
Now, in Paris, the Dutch women carry the weight of expectation as the most decorated team in Olympic hockey history, and they are coming to Paris on a hot streak of hockey scores. They crushed the competition in the most recent FIH Hockey Pro League season, winning a staggering 15 games and just a single loss in 16 games.
Their offensive firepower was undeniable, scoring 31 goals in their first five matches alone. Even after securing the title early, they remained relentless, demonstrating their sheer dominance.
This impressive performance follows their equally dominant 2023 season, where they achieved a perfect record of 15 wins and a single drawn game (decided by a shootout loss). This recent history paints a clear picture: the Netherlands are a force to be reckoned with.
Bronze and silver will likely be a fight between a few different teams in the women’s tournament. Germany, Argentina, Australia and Belgium are the four most likely teams to fight for the last two medals, but it may just come down to who is able to avoid the Dutch women the longest.
