Braves vs Orioles Predictions: Slumping Braves Falling Fast
Fade Braves the Trend, Will it Hold Up?

The Atlanta Braves (35-28) look to stop the bleeding when they visit the Baltimore Orioles (43-22) for a three-game series starting Tuesday. The Braves have dropped three straight and now trail Philadelphia by 9.0 games in the NL East. The Orioles are coming off a sweep in Tampa Bay and are several games behind the Yankees in the AL East.
Atlanta is expected to start Max Fried, while the Orioles will counter with Albert Suarez. The Braves vs Orioles predictions show Atlanta is favored -130 and the total on the game is 8-under (-115). The Braves are +125 on the runline.
Atlanta’s slide in the MLB standings happens to coincide with the team’s bats going quiet. The Braves have scored just 3.63 runs per game since the beginning of May. Atlanta is 16-19 in that span and 12-23 in total. The Braves aren’t hitting for power the way they have in the past. Atlanta is tied at No. 17 in homers for the year.
The pitching staff has been decent, with Atlanta sitting at No. 9 in team ERA. The bullpen has done its job, with a 3.33 ERA, and has 18 saves in 29 attempts. Atlanta has nine shutouts on the year, tops in Major League Baseball.
Baltimore has been one of the best offensive teams in Major League Baseball. The Orioles are the best home run hitting team in the league and are tops in slugging percentage. Baltimore hasn’t shown any difference against right-handers or left-handers, hitting well against both.
The Orioles are No. 3 in team ERA, getting the job done on both sides of the field. The MLB starting pitchers have been solid and the bullpen has held up its end of the bargain with a 3.32 ERA. The Orioles are 20 for 32 in save attempts.

Tuesday’s Game
The Braves vs Orioles predictions have Atlanta going 9-3 when Fried starts. The Braves have won his last three starts and are 6-2 when he starts on the road. Fried is 1-1 against the Orioles lifetime.
Suarez has pitched well for the Orioles and is one of the great stories in MLB this season. He last pitched in the Majors in 2017 and spent some time in Japan before getting a minor league contract from the Orioles this season. Suarez was called up on April 17, he has a 2-0 record and 1.83 ERA. As a starter, Baltimore is 4-2 when he takes the mound and his ERA is 2.15.
The Orioles played Monday night in Tampa and had to travel back home for this game, although that’s not reason enough for Atlanta to be such big favorites. The MLB betting lines are off a little bit here. Take Baltimore +120.
Wednesday’s Game
Spencer Schwellenbach is slated to get the start for Atlanta and his first two starts haven’t been impressive. He allowed three runs in five innings against Washington. He followed that up by allowing six runs in 4 2/3 innings against Boston. The Braves must see something they like in him unless it’s a matter of needing somebody to eat up some innings.
The Orioles will counter with Cade Popvich, who is making just his second career start. His first was rather ugly and he allowed six runs in 5 1/3 innings against Toronto.
The MLB predictions are going to be calling for a lot of runs with two young pitchers with a combined three MLB starts. Be careful with the over, however, as at least one of the two pitchers should have a better outing than they’ve shown so far. The Braves as an underdog could be a decent value play. Schwellenbach is striking out some hitters, which is something you want to see in a young pitcher.
Thursday’s Game
The Braves vs Orioles predictions have Reynaldo Lopez starting for Atlanta against Cole Irvin in the series finale. Lopez has been tough for Atlanta this season, going 3-2 with a 1.85 ERA. Atlanta is 7-4 when Lopez starts, but just 2-3 when he starts on the road. His road ERA is 2.60 and the Braves are 0-5 in totals when Lopez starts away from home.
Irvin has been brilliant for the Orioles, going 6-1 with a 2.67 ERA and Baltimore is 8-2 when he starts. The Orioles are 6-1 in Irvin’s last seven starts and he’s pitching to a 1.27 ERA. Baltimore is 4-2 when Irvin starts at home and 2-4 in total.
The total in this one is going to be on the low side, as it should be. Of all MLB scores when Lopez has pitched, only three of his 11 starts have seen more than 7 runs. The under is the way to go in this one.
