Braves vs Padres MLB Odds: Atlanta Favored
Both Teams Struggling For Wins

The Atlanta Braves visit the San Diego Padres in a three-game series that leads to the All-Star Break. The Braves have fallen to 9.5 games behind Philadelphia, while the Padres are 7.0 games behind the Dodgers. Neither team is playing particularly well right now, so the break will do them some good.
The Braves vs Padres MLB odds have Atlanta -122 with a total of 8.5-under (-115). The Padres are -150 on the run line getting 1.5 runs. Spencer Schwellenbach is the listed starter for Atlanta and will be opposed by Randy Vasquez. Atlanta enters the series on a two-game slide and San Diego has dropped four straight.
After starting the season on a high note, Atlanta has been pretty average for the past two-and-a-half months. In April, the Braves were 17-8 and scored 5.1 runs per game. Since May 1, Atlanta is just 32-32 and has averaged 3.9 runs per game.

The Braves are 22-24 on the road and 20-19 as a road favorite. One of Atlanta’s biggest problems this season has been an inability to string together wins. The Braves are 26-25 after a victory and 14-12 after winning two straight games. Atlanta is going to need a prolonged winning streak to get back into the NL East race. The Braves’ MLB playoffs odds still show Atlanta as large favorites to make the postseason. Atlanta has a 4.0-game lead in the wild card race.
San Diego has lost a golden opportunity to cut into the Dodgers’ lead in the NL West. The Dodgers have lost four straight games, while San Diego has done the same. With the top two teams struggling, that has allowed the rest of the division to close the gap. Arizona moved within one game of the Padres. The Giants are three games behind the Padres. The Padres are right in the middle of the wild card race.

Starters Coming Off Solid Outings
Schwellenbach and Vasquez have struggled at times this season, but are each coming off decent outings. Schwellenbach allowed one run in six innings in a victory over Philadelphia.
Vasquez allowed two runs in 6 1/3 innings against Arizona in his last start. Schwellenbach is 2-4 on the season with a 5.02 ERA and the Braves are 2-5 when he starts. Atlanta hasn’t given him plenty of run support when he’s been on the mound. The Braves are scoring 2.3 runs per game when he starts. Atlanta has lost all three of his road starts.
The Padres are 5-7 when Vasquez starts and 3-3 when he starts at home. Vasquez is 2-4 with a 4.66 ERA. He’s mostly done a decent job but has had a couple of rough outings. Those have taken a toll on his stats. Over his last three starts, Vasquez has allowed three runs in 15 1/3 innings, so he’s pitching better.
The Braves vs Padres MLB odds might be underestimating the Padres a little in this spot. The total may seem low given the high ERAs of the two starters, but it’s where it should be given the way both teams are playing. An MLB score prediction of nine or more runs in this game asks a lot from the offenses.
Who to Bet On?
You can make a slight case for taking the under 8.5 runs in this game and a fair number of MLB predictions today will be on the under. Both teams were shut out the last time they took the field, something that usually only happens a few times each season.
The Braves vs Padres MLB odds offer a little bit of value on the Padres at +112. Vasquez hasn’t thrown poorly in his last three starts. He typically doesn’t pitch very deep into the game, but San Diego was off on Thursday, which will give the arms in the bullpen some rest. Take the Padres as a small home underdog in the series opener.
